Work pants came out of the job site and ended up on skate ramps and city sidewalks for one reason: they hold up. I look for heavy cotton, a loose leg that sits over sneakers or boots, and pockets that actually carry things. Stanray's painter pant in washed blue and the carpenter pant from Polo Ralph Lauren are the closest to the real thing, with that straight, slightly stiff drape that softens with every wash.

 

For a cleaner take, Elwood's double knee pant in brown and the Dickies Jamie Foy loose fit pair well with a plain white tee and a pair of beat up skate shoes. The cargo cuts are where it gets fun. Levi's extra baggy cargo is easy everyday wear, and so is the pair from Alpha Industries, while Carhartt WIP, Stone Island and Nahmias push the pocket count higher. Pick a color like olive, brown or stone that goes with the shirts you already own.
