BK Beauty brushes come from a former MAC trainer who believes a few well-chosen shapes beat a drawer of twenty-four. Here are the brushes to start with, the face and eye brushes from other makers that sit beside them, and the cleaners that keep the fibers soft.

Who Owns BK Beauty: Lisa J and Her Brushes
On 24 February 1938, Dr. West's Miracle-Tuft reached shelves in Chicago. It was a toothbrush, the first with DuPont nylon bristles, and its makers announced it by pointing out that until then every good toothbrush had been made with animal hair. It was also the first commercial use of a synthetic fibre, made possible by a chemist at DuPont who had first produced nylon in 1935. Nobody framed it this way at the time, but it was the start of the soft vegan brush head.
BK Beauty brushes are the modern descendant of that idea. Lisa Jauregui, known online as Lisa J, worked as a MAC Cosmetics trainer and a YouTuber before she founded the brand in 2019. She started at a makeup counter at 18 or 19, left advertising to come back to it, and launched with nine brushes. The name comes from her daughters, Brooklyn and Kate, and also stands for Beauty is Kindness. The brand says its brushes and makeup are cruelty-free and vegan, with synthetic fibers and no animal hair, and that every purchase triggers a donation to The Kindness Campaign, a nonprofit for children's social-emotional health.
What I like is the trainer's logic underneath. A counter artist teaches you to use one brush for three jobs, and the line reflects that with a few well-named shapes instead of a drawer of twenty-four. The 101 Contoured Foundation Brush is where I would begin, and I would pair it with the Nikki La Rose N19 Ultimate Coverage if you want a denser finish. The 111 Dense Bronzer and N18 Ultimate Contour handle warmth and shape, and the A506 Concealer Brush from the Angie Hot and Flashy series is the small one for under the eye and around the nose. The A507 Angled Blush is the cheek brush, while the 206 Blending Shader and 212 Medium Blender cover the lid.

Face brushes for foundation, powder and cheeks
A dense brush leaves coverage, a fluffy one leaves a glow, and an angled one leaves a shape, so decide what you want to see when you are done. Most people buy in the wrong order, starting with the fanciest brush and finding out later it does not match the finish they like.
Westman Atelier's Liquid Foundation Brush is the skin-finish one, and the Powder Brush is its soft counterpart. Hourglass's Veil Powder Brush is the big one for a light dusting. For cheeks, Saie's The Powder Blush Brush, Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch Blush Brush, NARS's #16 Blush Brush and the Sephora Collection PRO Blush Brush #93 all give slightly different amounts of diffusion, and Summer Fridays' The Bronzer Brush is the warm, easy one for the sun-kissed edge of the face.
A pairing I like: a dense foundation brush from the BK series, then a big powder brush from this grid to set only the T-zone. The two shapes do different work and you get more control than you would from one brush that tries to do everything.
What I would skip: a large powder brush for a morning when you are in a hurry and wearing a lot of liquid product. Reach for a smaller, more controlled brush so nothing gets dragged.

Eye brushes for blending and shading
Blending is what separates eyeshadow that looks intentional from eyeshadow that looks like a bruise, and one good fluffy brush does most of the work. Buy that blender before you think about shaders.
Makeup by Mario's E3 All-Over Tapered Eyeshadow Brush and E6 Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush are a neat pair, the first for the whole lid and the second for two jobs in one handle. MERIT's Brush No. 1 Tapered Blending Brush and No. 2 Double Sided Eyeshadow Brush work the same way, simple and clean in design. NARS's #22 Blending Brush and MAC's 217 Synthetic Blending Brush are the classics of the genre, and the 217 is the synthetic one, for anyone who wants a MAC blender without animal hair. Saie's Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush puts a shader and a blender together, and Sephora Collection's Essential Brush 13 Multitasker Eye is the basic one to start with.
Try this with a neutral shade: pack color on the lid with the shader end, then windshield-wiper the blender through the crease with barely any pressure. If the edges are still sharp, you have not blended long enough.
What I would skip: dragging a stiff shader through the crease. It deposits color in a stripe rather than a wash.

Brush cleaners and cleaning tools
Foundation and concealer brushes hold product and moisture against the skin, so they need washing more often than the powder ones, and a clean brush also applies more evenly.
Cinema Secrets' Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner in Lemon is the fast, professional option. Ogee's The Brush Cleanser and Jenny Patinkin's Luxury Makeup Brush Soap are the ones for a proper wash, and Patinkin's Spray Away Instant Makeup Brush Cleaner is for a quick reset between looks. Sigma's Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat gives you texture to work the bristles against, and e.l.f.'s Clean Queen Solid Brush and Sponge Cleaner is the simple bar. Beautyblender's Liquid Blendercleanser and Tool Scrub are for the sponges, although they work on brushes too.
Lay brushes flat or angle them head-down on a towel to dry, so water stays out of the handle. The BK handles have a glossy finish, and I would keep them out of the water. A quick spray and wipe between looks keeps the liquid-product brushes honest until wash day.
What I would skip: soaking a brush in a bowl of water before a wash. Wet only the bristles, and keep the ferrule dry.

The BK 101 brush as a starting point
The 101 Contoured Foundation Brush is the right place to start, because a foundation brush shows you right away whether you like working with brushes at all. Add a blending brush for the eyes and a cleaner, and you already have a kit. I would rather own three good brushes than a roll of twenty.
A lot of beauty starts with a good tool and a bit of patience. The nylon toothbrush was a small thing in 1938. It still changed what a bristle could be. Buy one brush, use it for a month, and then decide what the drawer needs. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Michael Todd Beauty and Real Techniques Brushes and the Two Sisters Who Filmed Them Into Being.
