A black tie edit for men who keep getting invited: tuxedos, tuxedo separates, pocket squares, a bow tie and patent or velvet shoes. Start with the fit and let the details do the rest.

Black Tie
The dress code gets easier once you stop overthinking it. I start with a black tuxedo that fits properly through the shoulders, like the Slim Fit Tuxedo from BOSS or Giorgio Armani's single-breasted wool version, and let everything else stay quiet. If you want a little color, Bonobos makes a blue suit that still feels dressed up.
Shoes decide the whole outfit. Allen Edmonds patent lace-ups are the classic answer, and the velvet Robinson loafer is what I'd wear to a friend's wedding when I want something relaxed. Add a crisp white shirt, a feather bow tie if the dress code has room for personality, and a pocket square from Etro. Theory's tuxedo jacket and pants are good if you want to mix and match pieces you can wear apart later.
