Burberry Perfume: Her, Goddess And What I Would Try Alongside Them

Burberry Perfume: Her, Goddess And What I Would Try Alongside Them

Burberry perfume has meant two very different things depending on the decade, from the citrus and almond of Brit to the berry rush of Her. This edit covers every version of Her and Goddess, the earlier scents that came before them, and the berry and cherry perfumes from other houses that scratch a similar itch. There is a size, a strength and a flanker here for nearly any mood.

Two very different eras of Burberry perfume

Burberry actually brought its fragrance business in house back in 2013, then handed the license to Coty in an agreement that closed in October 2017, and that handoff is why the Burberry perfume shelf looks so split in two. Her arrived in late 2018 as the first scent under the new Coty license, composed by Francis Kurkdjian as a fruity floral gourmand built on strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, sour cherry and black currant over violet and jasmine, settling into musk, vanilla and cashmeran. A later Her Elixir de Parfum flanker came from perfumers Jerome di Marino and Maia Lernout, keeping the strawberry and blackberry opening but pushing the base toward vanilla, sandalwood and amber. Goddess followed in 2023 from Master Perfumer Amandine Clerc-Marie, trading the berries for a vanilla-forward gourmand built on three separate vanilla extractions. Between those two, a Burberry perfume can read as either a bowl of red fruit or a warm vanilla pour, and this edit walks through both.

Burberry Goddess, plus travel sprays and a mini duo

Goddess is the newer of the two pillars, and Clerc-Marie built it around a vanilla infusion up top paired with lavender, a heart she calls Vanilla Caviar, and a vanilla absolute base, with cacao and ginger sitting alongside. It launched on Burberry's own site and in travel retail on July 1, 2023, then reached Macy's a month later. The Goddess Eau de Parfum Intense pushes that same vanilla and lavender pairing further, while the Parfum concentration adds leather to the vanilla for a heavier finish. If you already know you like it, the travel sprays and the Mini Her & Goddess Perfume Duo Set are the easy way to keep a version in a bag without committing to a full bottle of each.

The earlier Burberry perfumes: My Burberry, Brit, London, Touch and Weekend

Before Her existed, the house had a different signature. Brit launched back in 2003 under perfumer Nathalie Gracia-Cetto as a green, almond-flecked scent, opening on lime, icy pear and green almond before moving into sugared almond and white peony, then settling into vanilla, amber, mahogany and tonka bean. Francis Kurkdjian, who later composed Her, had actually already worked on My Burberry in 2014, which makes him the connective thread between the two design eras even though the results smell nothing alike. London, Touch and Weekend round out the older catalog as quieter, more classic sprays that predate the berry-forward turn entirely. Anyone who found Her too sweet might actually prefer starting here instead.

If you like Burberry Her: other berry and cherry perfumes

The strawberry and black currant idea did not stay exclusive to one brand for long. Valentino's Donna Born in Roma Extradose leans on vanilla and blackcurrant, while Miu Miu's Miutine Intense pairs blackberry with bourbon vanilla for something a little darker. The 7 Virtues goes fully dessert with Strawberry Jam and its vanilla marshmallow base, and Juliette has a gun's Miami Shake and LoveShackFancy's Endless Dreams both build on a strawberry and vanilla frame that reads younger and brighter. Tom Ford takes the cherry idea in a moodier direction with Lost Cherry and its rosier Electric Cherry flanker, and Gucci's Flora Gorgeous Magnolia leans on berries against patchouli for something greener underneath the fruit.

Where I would start with a Burberry perfume

If the strawberry and black currant opening of Her is the appeal, start there before trying the Elixir, since the Elixir is a heavier, more vanilla-forward version of the same idea rather than a new direction. If vanilla is really the draw, go straight to Goddess and skip Her entirely, because the two pillars are built on almost opposite fruit-to-vanilla ratios. Anyone nostalgic for the almond and amber of old Burberry should track down Brit before assuming the newer scents will scratch that itch. And if none of the house's own two eras quite fit, the berry perfumes from Valentino, Miu Miu and Tom Ford above are worth a sample before buying full size.
