Cabin Weekend Outfits for Fall Getaways

Cabin Weekend Outfits for Fall Getaways

A cabin weekend is the one time I pack almost nothing and still feel dressed. These are the jackets, sweaters, boots and jeans I would bring.

There is a specific kind of weekend where the plan is a fireplace, a stack of books and no schedule. I pack light for it, but I pack well.

It starts with a jacket that can handle the cold. The Goldbergh Hida down jacket in tan is the one for real snow, and the Moncler Grenoble Laplance with shearling trim in dark green is the one that looks like a mountain movie. The Moncler Genius x EE72 Blas short down jacket in black is the easy one, and the Cordova Nozawa shearling jacket in blue is the unexpected one.

Sweaters for Cabin Mornings

Cabin mornings are slow, cold and best spent in something soft. The sweater has to be good enough to wear all weekend.

The RÙADH Academy argyle cashmere is the preppy one, and Another Tomorrow wool turtleneck in off-white is the clean one. The Row Plira cashmere turtleneck is the calm, quiet one, and the Etro patterned wool sweater in black is the one with the most personality. Bring one you can sleep in without feeling silly.

Boots for Cold Mornings

You will walk to the car, to the woodpile and to the coffee shop in town, so the boot has to work. Suede is good for dry cold, leather for anything damp.

The Prada suede ankle boot and the Khaite Andee are the classic ones, and the Roger Vivier Trompette suede boot is the dressier choice. The Johanna Ortiz Alma Latina western boot is for a weekend when you want the outfit to have a story.

Relaxed Straight Jeans

A relaxed straight jean is the right shape for a cabin, with room for long underwear and enough ease for sitting by the fire.

The Agolde Lana and the KALLMEYER Temple in blue are the easy ones, and the Jeanerica Kyoto Droit is slightly looser. The Row Imma in black is the sleek one that makes a plain sweater feel like an outfit. What I would skip is anything too tight to bend your knees by the fire.

Pack Light and Stay Warm

One great jacket, two sweaters, a good boot and a pair of jeans you can live in. That is enough for the whole weekend.

If this is the kind of week you are dressing for, I would also read my notes on cozy girl outfits, apple picking outfits, football game outfits and long coat outfits.
