Chinese Fairytale Makeup: Flower Knows From Hangzhou to Ulta

Flower Knows is Chinese fairytale makeup from Hangzhou, known for sculpted packaging and now the first Chinese beauty brand at Ulta. I go through a dozen Strawberry Cupid pieces, from lips to cheeks and eyes, plus what I would skip.

Flower Knows was founded in 2016 in Hangzhou by two cosplay enthusiasts, and you can tell: the packaging is sculpted like a keepsake, with ribbons, hearts and blossoms, and the collections have names like Strawberry Cupid and Midsummer Fairytales. It made its American retail debut in 2023, and in December 2025 it became the first Chinese beauty brand sold at Ulta Beauty, a real marker for C-beauty. Proya Cosmetics, the Chinese beauty group, took a majority stake in May 2026. Flower Knows is the rare brand where the compact is half the point. Proya describes the Strawberry Cupid collection as Rococo-romantic, and it shows in the embossed pressed powder, the All Day Glow liquid blush, a solid perfume and a hand mirror you will keep long after the powder runs out. Expect soft, pink-leaning shades in this collection, and treat the mirror as the souvenir. I like that the brand takes a cosplay sense of fantasy and turns it into something you can wear to work.

Four for lips

The lip range is where the names get even sweeter. The Sweetie Bear Coating Lip Jelly is a glossy tint, the Shell's Jewel Nourishing Lip Glaze leans toward treatment, the Bunny Garden Cloud Lip Cream is a soft cream finish, and the Knight Unicorn Glazed Lipstick gives a shiny bullet. I would start with the jelly or the glaze if you like a sheer, everyday lip, and save the cloud cream for evenings when you want color that stays put. Blot the jelly once with a tissue for a stain that lasts through coffee, then add a second coat.

Cheeks and eyes, and the skip

The Little Angel Embossed Highlighter and the Midsummer Fairytales Velvet Embossed Blush carry reliefs you almost do not want to swatch, and the Swan Ballet palette gathers six shades for eyes. The Ballet Air Blush is the lightest of the cheek products. What I would skip is buying for the packaging alone. Check swatches against your own skin tone first, and swirl the brush lightly across embossed powders, rather than pressing, so the design lasts longer. A small fluffy brush works best on the blushes. Tap off the excess before it touches your cheek, since a little goes further than you think.

Wearing it

Use a light hand, since pink blush builds fast. Pat the liquid blush on with fingers before powder. Keep compacts in their boxes to protect the sculpted lids when you travel, and store the solid perfume away from heat. Enjoy it; this is makeup meant to be a little playful, and it should feel that way to wear.
