Cream and chocolate brown are the softest high-contrast pairing there is, all the polish of black and white with none of the chill. These four looks pair a cream jacquard cardigan with chocolate suede trousers, a brown ruffled turtleneck with a cream fringed skirt, and an ivory shearling gilet over brown silk and wool. Start with one piece of each and add as you go.
Cream and Chocolate Brown Outfits to Try This Fall

In 1875, a chocolatier in Vevey named Daniel Peter worked out how to make milk chocolate, using condensed milk from his neighbor Henri Nestlé. People had been drinking chocolate with milk long before that, but this was the moment the two became one thing you could hold.
Cream and chocolate brown are just as good together on a person. The contrast is clear, light against dark, but both colors are warm, so the effect is softer than black and white. Cream also looks richer next to brown than it does next to almost anything else.
A quick test: put a cream sweater on with brown boots or a brown bag. If the cream looks buttery rather than stark, choose that shade for the pieces below.

Start With One Piece of Each
Shoes and a belt are the easiest way to try this. Aquazzura's Ride 30 knee boots are flat chocolate suede, and Déhanche's Sedona belt is a wide chocolate suede band with long tassels. For cream, Jil Sander's Lune ankle boots are ivory leather on a curved heel, and Métier's Ease clutch, made with Fernando Jorge, is white glossed leather with a gold detail across the front. Wear the brown boots with a cream sweater, or the reverse.
A Cream Cardigan, Brown Suede Trousers
Proenza Schouler's Nilo cardigan is an off-white jacquard knit with fringed ruffles down the front, and Arma's Jean suede pants are chocolate with a straight leg. The soft knit against the suede is the whole appeal. Jimmy Choo's Tamia 70 Chelsea boots have a cable-knit upper on chocolate suede, and Mateo's gold necklace has a small pearl and diamond pendant.
How to wear it: button the cardigan up and wear it on its own, so the ruffled edge runs straight down to the waist.
A Brown Turtleneck, a Cream Skirt
Ulla Johnson's Camille turtleneck is brown merino with ruffled cuffs, and Lanvin's fringed midi skirt is cream wool with a line of fringe down one side. Le Monde Beryl's suede knee boots are dark brown and flat, and The Row's Park tote is dark brown suede. Brown on top, brown on the bottom and cream in the middle gives the outfit a neat stripe.
The Cream Dress, a Brown Suede Blazer
Sea's Margaret maxi dress is cream chiffon with tiers and lace trim, and it is pretty enough on its own. Veronica Beard's Maci suede blazer in brown gives it a sharper outline and makes it work on a cold evening. Saint Laurent's Jill 95 ankle boots are brown suede on a slim heel, and Julietta's Pantheon earrings are cream drops with a black onyx center.
What I would skip: a cream bag. The dress is already a lot of cream, and a brown bag or none at all keeps it balanced.
A Cream Shearling Gilet Over Brown
Yves Salomon's shearling gilet is ivory and fluffy, and it is the piece people will ask about. Under it, Tom Ford's pleated crepe de chine blouse is chocolate brown, and Simkhai's wool midi skirt is a slightly lighter brown. The brown underneath lets the gilet stand out. Ferragamo's Hug bag is cream leather on a short shoulder strap, which brings the cream down from the top.
Make It Milk Chocolate
Cream and chocolate brown are an easy pairing because both are warm. Choose creams that lean toward butter or ivory rather than bright white, and browns that are deep enough to read as chocolate. Use brown for leather and suede and cream for knits and silk, and the textures will do the rest. Start with brown suede and a cream sweater.
