Dylan Purple By Versace: Pear, Freesia And Fruity Florals To Wear With It

Dylan Purple is Versace's 2022 pear and freesia eau de parfum, the grown-up one of the Dylan family. Here is what sets it apart from Blue and Turquoise, plus the fruity florals, sweet designer bottles and peach mists that sit well beside it. Start with the purple bottle and its Medusa head.

Why Dylan Purple is the grown-up Dylan

At Easter in 1856, an eighteen-year-old named William Henry Perkin was trying to make quinine and ended up discovering something else. It was mauveine, the first synthetic purple dye, and he patented it that August. Once Empress Eugénie and Queen Victoria wore mauve, the color stopped being a royal privilege and became something the whole street wanted. Purple has felt slightly illicit ever since. So does this bottle.

Dylan Purple, Versace's Pour Femme eau de parfum from 2022, is the third color in a family that started with Dylan Blue in 2017 and Dylan Turquoise in 2020. Blue leans green apple and black currant, Turquoise goes mandarin and guava, and Purple is the one that grows up. Fragrantica lists pear, bergamot and bitter orange on top, freesia and pomarose in the heart, and ambroxan, cedar and Iso E Super underneath, which is a clean, musky base rather than a candy one. Versace calls it bright and elegant, with a bottle whose curves recall an amphora, and the formula is vegan. Fragrantica says the launch drew on Italian beaches and ice creams, and the campaign, with Iris Law, is about an endless summer. Versace now belongs to the Prada Group, which completed its acquisition on 2 December 2025.

The trick is to smell the whole family in one afternoon. The Purple Eau de Parfum is the anchor, and the Perfumed Bath & Shower Gel lets you wear it in the shower. Dylan Blue Pour Femme Eau de Parfum is sharper and greener, Dylan Turquoise Pour Femme Eau de Toilette is the beach one, and Dylan Blush Pink Eau de Parfum is the sweetest of the four. If you want something outside the Dylan line, Yellow Diamond, Crystal Emerald and Crystal Noir are Versace's other women's bottles, each with its own color story.

Fruity florals in the same spirit

Start with the fruit, not the flower. Spray a strip, wait two minutes and ask yourself whether you smell sugar or juice. The purple bottle sits in the juicy camp, and so do the best of these.

Dior's Addict Purple Glow and Addict Peachy Glow are the two closest in mood, one purple, one peach, both bright and easy in daylight. Kayali's Eden Sweet Peach and Eden Sparkling Lychee are the sweeter, more playful pair, and the lychee one is the fizzier of the two. LoveShackFancy's Sweetheart with raspberry and peach is very pretty on a summer dress. Clean Reserve's Sun-Kissed Papaya with sandalwood is the quietest, a fruit scent that stays close to the skin.

Chanel's Chance Eau Vive is the lighter, brighter one, and Gucci's Guilty Pour Femme with mandarin, lilac and patchouli is the one for evening.

A pairing I like: Dior Peachy Glow on a summer day, then the Versace at the end of it. Peach in the morning, purple at sunset.

What I would skip: wearing a fizzy fruit scent to a dinner table. Juicy notes are lovely outdoors and a little loud in a small restaurant.

Sweet designer eau de parfums for women

Here is a test I like for any sweet designer perfume. Put it on your inner elbow, then go and do something else for two hours. The fragrance that still smells like something you would want to hug at hour two is the one to buy.

This grid is the sweet, dressy side of designer perfume. Carolina Herrera's Good Girl with jasmine and Very Good Girl with rose and vanilla are the flirtiest, and the second one is the warmer of the two. Armani Beauty's Sì, with vanilla, blackcurrant and rose, is a modern classic that suits a blazer and a good coat. Viktor&Rolf's Good Fortune with jasmine and vanilla is more soft and creamy than sparkling. Valentino's Donna Born In Roma Purple Melancholia is the purple cousin here, and a nice one to hold up to the Versace. Gucci's Flora Gorgeous Orchid with vanilla is romantic, and Chloé's Le Nectar Parfum Intense with bergamot and orange blossom is glowier and brighter. Armani Beauty's My Way Ylang is the most floral of the group.

A pairing I like: the Versace in the day and one of these at night. They live in different moods, and you do not need to choose.

What I would skip: layering two sweet perfumes that both lean on vanilla. It turns to syrup. If you want to layer, pair sweet with something citrus.

Fruity hair and body mists for layering

One rule for mists: spray them on your hair and on your clothes, not just your skin. They are made to be light, and hair holds scent longer than skin does.

PHLUR's Peach Skin is the soft one, a good all-day mist for a desk. PHLUR's Dragon Fruit and Mango Mood are the bright ones, made for the summer. LoveShackFancy's Peach Pom Pom is a pretty pink bottle that seems designed to sit on a vanity. Mane's Sunny Buns is the one I would use on a slicked-back bun. 54 Thrones' Love In Lagos Juicy Peach and SKYLAR's Peach Fields are two more peachy options, one a little lush, the other a little lighter. Ellis Brooklyn's Banana Milkshake is the playful one, and it does what the name says.

A pairing I like: a fruity mist on the hair and the perfume on the skin. It gives you a soft trail above and a clean heart underneath, and it stretches the perfume across a whole day.

What I would skip: a strongly sweet mist on top of it. It will cover the pear and freesia.

Wearing purple on purpose

I think Dylan Purple is a good pick for anyone who likes fruity florals and does not want a candy shop. It is fresh, a little musky, and easy to wear on a normal Tuesday. That combination is rarer than it sounds.

So I would start with the Eau de Parfum and try one Dior Addict next to it to see which mood is yours. Then add a peach mist for the hair, and keep a small bottle in your bag for the afternoon.

Perkin found purple by accident. You can find your bottle on purpose. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Versace Eros Energy and Versace Eau Fraiche.
