Eliou Jewelry: The Details Worth Knowing

Eliou Jewelry: The Details Worth Knowing

Éliou is a Miami jewelry label that Cristina Mantilla and Duda Teixeira started as friends in 2018. I love its beads, pearls and bright color, which make jewelry feel playful and a little sun-washed.

How two Miami friends shaped Eliou

I have always believed the best jewelry comes from people who like each other, and Éliou is a good argument for it. Cristina Mantilla and Duda Teixeira were friends already making things together when they started the label in 2018, and they carried the instincts of that earlier creative work into pieces that favor individual expression. They have built carefully, with a small team and no outside investors, adding categories only when they felt ready. That restraint tells you a lot: Éliou feels personal and never overbuilt.

The pieces are handmade with beads, pearls and gold sourced from Brazil, and the label had a very public moment when several necklaces turned up in Harry Styles's Golden video, including a freshwater-pearl one personalized for the shoot. The attention brought new demand, but the work itself stays tactile and playful. The label's own story puts nature, individuality and artisan craft first, and I feel that in the sun-washed color and the imperfect charm. I would wear it all with a plain tank or a linen shirt and let the jewelry bring the souvenir detail. I went deeper on a related idea in Cartier Tank Guide: Watches and Pieces Worth Knowing. I went deeper on a related idea in Dr. Denim Jeans: The Fits Worth Knowing.

Jewelry with a little salt in it

Éliou's necklaces carry the playful side without asking for an occasion. The Noemia Necklace and the Nitta Wrap Necklace are two different starting points for layering, and I would wear one over a plain crewneck, then add the Spina Wrap Necklace over a white tank once the neckline opens up. Its red, plus the green of the Salgada Necklace and the clear detail of the Comporta Earrings, gives a simple outfit a little sun. The Tatty Anklet belongs with sandals.

In my fashion dreams, she is at a late lunch in Miami, hair still salty, in a linen shirt open over a tank and a single colored strand. My tip: choose one vivid piece first and keep the rest of the jewelry simple so every shape gets a chance to read.

A little piece of the coast

What I like is that Éliou's point of view lives in material and color, not in a strict idea of how jewelry should be worn. Mantilla and Teixeira built the label from a shared creative practice, and that closeness still shows. The Analu Earrings and the Lija Earrings in Gold keep the face bright, the Bairro Necklace and Minnow Wrap Necklace sit close to the collarbone, and the Coral Necklace is the one I would wear with nothing else. A small Coqui Ring can stay near the body and feel private. Start with the piece you will keep touching all day, then build around it. The mood is Miami sun and sea, although the styling is entirely yours.
