Giorgio Armani Gowns and Blazers

Giorgio Armani Gowns and Blazers

Giorgio Armani S.p.A. was founded in Milan on 24 July 1975 by Giorgio Armani and his partner Sergio Galeotti, after Armani sold his Volkswagen to fund his own label. The house is known for the unlined, unconstructed jacket, which Armani adapted for women three months after the men's version. This edit gathers beaded gowns and draped midis, silk shirts and cashmere sweaters, wool blazers, tailored trousers, eau de parfum and round sunglasses.

A collage of refined women's tailoring, relaxed suits, crisp separates, and runway looks in muted tones.

Gowns and draped dresses

Giorgio Armani started his own house in Milan on 24 July 1975 with his partner Sergio Galeotti, and the story goes that he sold his Volkswagen to pay for it. What he made was clothing with the stiffness taken out. The unlined, unconstructed jacket was the starting point of all his work, and he said so himself. The dresses here follow that thinking. The Beaded Tulle Gown and the Strapless velvet gown are the evening pieces, and the Beaded velvet maxi dress and the Jersey Embellished Maxi Dress carry the same glow with a softer fall. For daytime events, the Elbow-Sleeve Draped Slit Midi Dress, the Draped Twisted-Collar Short-Sleeve Midi Dress and the Draped High Neck Dress rely on cut rather than decoration. The Floral Silk Long-Sleeve Maxi Dress is the one with the most color. Armani Privé haute couture debuted in Paris in 2005, but you can see the same restraint in these simpler dresses. If you are choosing for a formal night, my black tie dresses edit covers how to match a gown to the dress code.

Shirts, blouses and cashmere

The tops are where the Armani way of dressing is easiest to wear. The Double Georgette Washed Silk Shirt and the Tie Neck Creponne Blouse are soft and fluid, and the Bow-detail sleeveless shirt gives the same idea a lighter, summery feel. For evening, the Embellished Balloon-Sleeve Silk Shirt, the Embroidered tulle-sleeve blouse and the Floral Metallic Burnout Long-Sleeve Top bring some shine without a full gown. The knits are quiet and useful: the Boat-neck jumper, the Scoop Neck Sweater, the Cashmere Contrast Neck Sweater and the Ribbed Cashmere Silk Top. A good test for any soft top is the shoulder seam. It should sit right where your shoulder ends, because the whole point of this tailoring is a relaxed line that still looks deliberate. The Fringe Hem Tie Belt Cardigan is the loose, wrap-around layer, and my notes on how to wear a sweater over your shoulders show one way to use it. What I would skip is pairing the beaded or embroidered tops with another detailed piece, since they need plain trousers beneath them.

Blazers and one long cape

Armani adapted the unlined, unconstructed jacket for women three months after the men's version. The jackets here follow that line. The Shawl Lapel Virgin Wool Blazer and the Slim-fit herringbone-pattern jacket are the classic shapes, the Single-breasted velvet blazer is the one for evening, and the Ribbed Jersey Blazer and Techno Scuba One-Button Blazer are the softer, more modern versions. The Brocade-Trim Stretch-Nylon Jacket and the Stand Collar Curved Hem Jacket move away from the standard lapel. The Crystal Embellished Sheer Long Cape is the dramatic outlier, made for a black tie night when a coat would feel heavy. For a capsule built on a jacket, a fall capsule wardrobe built on the blazer is the place I would look.

Skirts, trousers and two gift sets

Once the jacket was settled, the trousers were the natural partner, and they are the part of the house I find most useful. The Wide Leg Pants, the Essentials Wool Slim-Fit Trousers and the Jacquard Jersey Straight-Leg Trousers cover everything from the office to dinner. For skirts, the Asymmetric draped midi skirt, the Techno Scuba Pencil Skirt and the Pleated-detail tulip-hem skirt give you three different silhouettes. Two scented gift pieces join them here, the 3-Piece Acqua di Gioia Parfum Gift Set and the Crema Nera Acqua Pantelleria (150ml). A simple fit test for trousers: stand in front of a mirror and check that the crease falls straight from the hip to the shoe, with no pull across the thigh. What I would skip is pairing the pencil skirt with a cropped, boxy jacket, because the proportions fight. Try a longer blazer instead, and add a wool trousers guide for the cooler months.

Fragrance and the finishing touches

The house has always sold a whole world, and the fragrance range shows it. Power of You Eau de Parfum Collection, Sì Eau de Parfum and My Way Eau de Parfum, 3 oz. are the well known names, while Lumières Eau de Parfum (100ml) and the Indigo Tanzanite Eau de Parfum (100ml) are the more unusual ones. The leather pair, Cuir Noir Eau de Parfum 3.4 oz. and Cuir Doré Eau de Parfum Intense (50ml), are for people who prefer a darker scent. The Crema Nera The Remodeling Cream and the Eye Tint Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeshadow sit in the same group, along with the Technical Silk Sleeveless Midi Shirtdress, the Grained leather passport holder and the Round frame sunglasses. If you like fragrance with a story, creamy white florals is a nice companion read.

The pieces I would build around

I would start with the blazer, add the wide leg trousers and a cashmere sweater, and keep the beaded gown for one night a year. Giorgio Armani died on 4 September 2025, aged 91, and the house continues under the Armani Group. What he left is a way of dressing that is quiet, soft and sure of itself, and these pieces are an easy way into it.
