Farm Rio's fall drop trades tropical brights for chocolate leather, black denim and dark florals. Here is how to wear the prints past September, plus the dark pieces our editors are buying at Saks, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's.
How To Wear Farm Rio Prints Once The Weather Turns

The Prints Got Darker, So The Rules Changed
Farm Rio built its name on tropical brights, which is exactly why most people put the label away in September. The fall collection that landed on August 25 makes that reflex wrong. The prints are still there, but the ground underneath them has gone chocolate, black and deep green, and the fabrics have moved to leather, corduroy, velvet and heavy denim. Vogue named the fall floral one of the season's defining trends for a reason: a flower on a dark base behaves like a texture rather than a souvenir of summer.
That single change is what makes the brand wearable in October. A bright floral on white reads as a holiday, so it fights everything else in your closet. The same floral on near-black reads as a pattern, and a pattern sits happily under a wool coat and over a boot. If you have only ever worn this label on a beach, the pieces below are the ones that translate. Start with the ground colour, not the flower, and the whole collection sorts itself into wearable and not.

What The Editors Actually Reached For
Our editors picked five pieces first, and the spread is telling. At the top, two leather pieces: the Dark Brown Hearts Richelieu Leather Jacket at $1,198 and the Brown Monstera Cutwork Leather Midi Dress at $1,310. Both use cutwork, so the pattern is punched through the hide instead of printed on it, which is why they hold up next to plain trousers. At the other end, the Multicolor Countryside Landscape jersey blouse is $130 and does the same job in a fraction of the fabric.
Sizing is the thing to watch. Farm Rio drafts blouses with real volume in the sleeve and a narrow shoulder, so the Eyelet Long Sleeve Blouse and the jersey styles run closer to the body than the photographs suggest. The leather is unlined and stiff for the first few wears, then drops. Cutwork leather cannot be machine washed or spot cleaned at home, so budget for a leather specialist rather than assuming a damp cloth will do it. Check the composition tab before you buy, because the jersey pieces and the leather pieces need completely different care.

How To Wear It Without Looking Seasonally Confused
The trick with a maximal print in cold weather is to stop treating it as an outfit and start treating it as one layer. Take the Tapestry Dream Long Sleeve Midi Dress or the Tapestry Flowers Belted Midi. Worn alone with a sandal, they read as resort. Add a knee-high boot, an opaque tight and a plain dark coat and the same dress reads as autumn, because the print is now framed by three solid blocks of colour.
The second move is to buy the print as a bottom half. The Tiny Garden Mixed Prints Maxi Skirt and the Black Richelieu Denim Trousers both pair with a plain knit, which is a far easier sell on a Tuesday than a head-to-toe pattern. The third is texture over colour: the Wide-Leg Tailored Corduroy Pants and the Black Leather Midi Skirt are solid, and they give the printed pieces somewhere quiet to sit. One loud item, two calm ones, is the whole formula. Keep the boot and the coat in the same colour family as the print's darkest tone and the outfit reads deliberate rather than busy.
Dark And Moody At Saks, Neiman Marcus And Bloomingdale's
Our honest take
We would not buy this brand for a plain black dress. There are ten labels doing that better and cheaper, and a Farm Rio piece with no print on it is a Farm Rio piece with the reason to own it removed. What the collection is genuinely good at is a dark print with real craft behind it, and the cutwork leather is the clearest example. It is also the least practical, so be honest with yourself about how often you dress for that.
The pieces we would skip are the mixed-print separates that combine three patterns in one garment. They photograph well and are hard to wear twice in one circle. The scarf bags at Neiman Marcus are the quiet win of the whole edit, at $138 and $158, because a dark printed bag carries the personality while everything else stays plain.
If you take one thing away, hold the fabric up to a black coat in the shop. If the print still reads at arm's length, it works for fall. If it disappears, it was a summer piece.
