Lladró Home Decor and Candles

Lladró was founded in 1953 by brothers Juan, José and Vicente Lladró at their home in Almàssera, near Valencia, Spain. The brothers introduced a single-firing method in the 1960s that helped define the brand's pastel tones, and the factory in Tavernes Blanques is still the only one. This edit gathers porcelain figurines and sculptures, Nightbloom and Lotus Firefly lamps, gold-plated porcelain jewelry, candles, incense diffusers and collectible sets.

Figurines, lamps and porcelain jewelry

Lladró is a family story first. In 1953 three brothers, Juan, José and Vicente Lladró, began making porcelain at their home in Almàssera, near Valencia. In the 1960s they introduced a single-firing method that helped define the brand's pastel tones. The company entered the American market in 1965, moved its headquarters to Tavernes Blanques in 1969, and opened a Fifth Avenue museum and gallery in New York in 1988. In 1991 two sculptures, 18th Century Coach and Don Quixote, entered the permanent collection of the Hermitage Museum after an exhibition there. The Spanish group PHI Industrial acquired the company in 2017. The first group is the easiest way to see how wide the world has become. A Romantic Christmas Figurine and Collectible Figurine, Ganesha Diya sit beside Goddess Lakshmi and Ethereal Spirit sculptures, and the Squirrel Jewel Sculpture is the small, playful one. The lighting is a surprise: the Lotus Firefly Lamp, the Nightbloom Hanging Lamp and the Porcelain Utopical Wireless Lamp. Jewelry gets a turn too, with the Kiss 18K-gold-plated and porcelain ring and drop earrings. Designer names appear as well, from The Guest by Devilrobots to Nao by Lladró Snow White. For a lamp, how to buy a table lamp online lays out what to check, and fall home is a good companion.

Animals, superheroines and collaborations

The second group is a menagerie. The Majestic Lion, the Origami Black Panther, the Black Panther with Cub, the Chameleon and the Chihuahua with Marshmallows each have a distinct mood, and the Porcelain Kokeshi Lamp and Madonna of the Flowers Lithophane Votive Lamp bring the same craft into light. Goddess Durga, Everlasting Love and Reflections of Nature, Him are the more sculptural pieces, and Eternal Fluidity Thinker is the most abstract. Then come the collaborations: The Guest by Tim Biskup and The Guest Small Figurine, I'm a Superheroine, a Minnie Mouse Sculpture in Black and White and a Charlie Brown Figurine for the Peanuts 70th Anniversary. What I would skip is crowding three figurines of similar scale onto a single shelf; give each one empty space around it so the shapes read. For ideas on arranging small objects, gifts for homebodies has a friendly starting point.

Candles, masks and collectible sets

The last group covers scent and display. The Majestic Nights Candle and Incense Diffuser, the Turquoise Spire 1001 Lights Candle, the Echoes of Nature Secret Orient and Mediterranean Beach candles, the Ikebana Flower Diffuser and the 1001 Lights Scheherazade's Quarters Candle bring the brand into the room as fragrance. Lion, Tiger and Antelope masks are the wall pieces, The Golden Guest, The Dreamer Bust by Laolu and Lord Balaji are the collectible figures, and the Medieval Chess Set and Koi Soya Set are the useful ones. Wedding Collection, Eternal Beauty and The Happiest Day are the celebration pieces. If you want to light something, perfume and home fragrance and the Nest guide to candles, oils and eau de parfum are good guides.

The Lladró shelf I would start

My Lladró shelf would start with one lamp, one animal and one candle. The lamp would be the Nightbloom, the animal the Majestic Lion, and the candle the Turquoise Spire. What I like about the brand is the family origin, three brothers at home in Almàssera, and the way that tiny beginning grew into a factory that still makes everything in one place.
