Mens Tweed Jackets and Textured Knits: Corduroy, Brushed Wool and Suede

Mens Tweed Jackets and Textured Knits: Corduroy, Brushed Wool and Suede

Lyst names top-tier textures as the look of 2026, and Hypebeast is asking whether this is the year of tweed. This edit follows that thread through corduroy trousers, brushed knits, suede shoes and cashmere scarves from labels like A.P.C., Inis Meáin and Grenson. Read on for how to wear texture without it getting loud.

Corduroy, Brushed Wool and Blouson Jackets

The Harris Tweed Act of 1993 is one of the few pieces of fashion law with a poetic definition. Harris Tweed is tweed handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides. The Act created the Harris Tweed Authority, successor to the 1909 Harris Tweed Association, and I like that cloth has a legal identity. The Guardian reported last summer on a revival, with more than 580,000 metres projected for 2024 and buyers including Dior, Chanel and Gucci. Hypebeast asked in January whether 2026 would be the year of tweed, pointing to Dior and Kith collections and to Harris Tweed footwear collaborations with Nike and Vans. Lyst's 2026 predictions go broader and name top-tier textures the visual language of the year: shearling, ribbed knits, bouclé, brushed wool, suede and heavily slubbed cotton. I read all of that as one idea, which is that clothes are being judged by touch again. Start with jackets. A.P.C. was created in Paris in 1987 by Jean Touitou, and its Auster brushed wool-blend coat in brown is minimalist without being cold. Hartford's brushed felt blouson, from a label Yves Chareton imagined in 1979, is the softer one. Officine Générale's corduroy jacket and Valstar's Valstarino corduroy bomber give you ridges instead of fuzz. Pick one texture per outfit. What I would skip is the Sacai x Levi's plush-trimmed denim jacket as your first texture piece, because the trim is already doing a lot.

Sweaters, Cardigans and Half-Zips

Knitwear is where texture is easiest to get right, because you can feel the difference in a second. Inis Meáin Knitting Company was founded on the island in 1976 by Tarlach de Blácam and Áine Ní Chonghaile and is the only knitting factory on any of the three Aran Islands. Their son Ruairí and his wife Marie-Thérèse took it over before its 50th anniversary this year, and the wool and linen-blend half-zip in gray shows how an island mill does a modern sweater. Piacenza 1733 is a family-run wool mill in Pollone, in Italy's Biella district, old enough to belong to Les Henokiens, the association of family businesses at least two centuries old. Its ribbed wool and cashmere-blend sweater in gray is a quiet, dense knit. LEMAIRE's alpaca-blend sweater in brown is slouchier, and NN07's wool-terry fleece cardigan is the one for people who find sweaters too serious. Wear a ribbed knit over an oxford shirt, collar out. What I would skip is the oversized Acne Studios polo sweater under a slim coat, because the bulk will bunch at the shoulders.

Corduroy, Pleated and Wide-Leg Trousers

This grid is mostly corduroy, and I have no complaints. Barena Venezia was founded in 1993 by Sandro Zara, and its name comes from the barene, the marsh islands of the Venetian Lagoon, so the straight-leg cotton-blend corduroy in beige is lagoon workwear in a very civilized form. Officine Générale, founded by Pierre Mahéo in 2012 in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, describes its point of view as beautiful normality, which suits the Fernand wide-leg corduroy in gray. ssstein's cotton-corduroy in beige is a leaner cut from a Tokyo designer who started by remaking jeans. For something other than ridges, Jeanerica's Genua herringbone in brown has weave and no shine, and Folk's pleated ripstop in brown is the practical pair. Aimé Leon Dore's houndstooth in gray is the closest to tweed here. Stand in the trousers for a minute before you decide, because wide legs should swing and straight legs should hang. What I would skip is the A Kind Of Guise Samurai wide-leg wool-twill if you are already wearing a chunky knit, because volume on top and bottom turns into a costume.

Suede Loafers, Boat Shoes and Hiking Boots

Suede is the texture that works the hardest with the least effort, and this grid has plenty of it. Grenson began in 1866 when William Green started making shoes in a loft above a corn merchant's in Rushden, and its 1874 factory at Green Yard was one of the first in the world to use Goodyear welting, so the Epsom suede penny loafer comes from serious shoemaking. Common Projects, founded in 2004 by Prathan Poopat and Flavio Girolami, puts a line of numbers on the heel of every pair, and the dark brown suede loafer is as pared back as it gets. Sebago started in Maine in 1946 and became known for Docksides, and the camel Ranger suede boat shoe is the relaxed one. For rougher ground, Diemme's Roccia Basso comes from a company founded in Montebelluna in 1992, and the Moncler x Clarks Trailgrip Wallabee in cream suede is the surprise of the lot. Wear loafers with corduroy and boots with everything else. What I would skip is TOTEME's soft croc-effect black loafer if the rest of your outfit is brown and green, since it pulls in a different direction.

Scarves, Gloves and Hats

Accessories are the easiest place to get a texture right, and the place most people add it last. Begg x Co traces back to 1866, when Alex Begg began making scarves in Paisley, and it moved to Ayr in 1902. It makes cashmere knitwear at mills in Ayr and Hawick, so the Bernard cashmere and wool-blend scarf in navy comes from people who have been doing this for a long time. Stone Island was founded in 1982 by Massimo Osti in Ravarino, starting from Tela Stella, a heavy-wash military-grade canvas, and its mouliné cotton-chenille scarf in gray has that nerdy fabric focus. Paul Smith opened his first shop at 6 Byard Lane, Nottingham, in 1970, a space of about three by three meters with no windows, and the cashmere and merino gloves in brown are exactly that kind of small, sure thing. Auralee's fringed checked cashmere scarf and Zegna's checked brushed cashmere scarf both borrow from tweed. Piacenza 1733's ribbed cashmere beanie and the Beams Plus corduroy hat finish the job on top. Wear a scarf with a plain coat and let it do the talking. What I would skip is the LOEWE fringed striped alpaca scarf with a patterned coat, because two loud things never get along.

Touch Before You Buy

The thing I keep coming back to is how little of this can be judged on a screen. Texture is a physical argument, and it only convinces when you hold the cloth. So when you shop for this look, think about hands first. Buy the trousers in corduroy or herringbone because you wear them most, then a brushed or ribbed knit, then a suede shoe. Add the jacket and the scarf as the weather asks for them. Keep to one dominant texture per outfit, perhaps a corduroy jacket over a smooth shirt, or a brushed coat over a ribbed sweater, and let everything else stay quiet. Harris Tweed has had a legal definition since 1993 so the cloth itself is protected, and I think that is a decent standard for everything else in your closet. If a garment feels good in your hands, it will probably feel good on you, and it will still feel good after a few winters of wear.

Trousers, Knits and Scarves to Handle First

If texture is an argument you settle with your hands, this last rack is where I would go to settle it. Start with the trousers: the Stone Island corduroy, the NN07 Kay pleated wide-leg and the ssstein pleated satin pair all change how a plain sweater looks. For the top half, the Mr P. space-dyed cashmere sweater and the Polo Ralph Lauren wool and cashmere-blend cardigan are the soft options, and the Aimé Leon Dore wool-blend varsity jacket is the heavier one. Auralee and Zegna both make a scarf here, in cashmere and wool. What I would skip: the satin trousers with a glossy shirt, because two shiny things fight, and a matte knit calms them down. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Why I Went Back to Powder.
