Ole Henriksen Lip Balm, From a Danish Dancer Turned Facialist

Ole Henriksen Lip Balm, From a Danish Dancer Turned Facialist

This Ole Henriksen lip balm edit follows Pout Preserve, the peptide treatment launched in January 2023, from the shades to the Chillers to the mini trio. The last grid sets it beside peptide lip products from Rhode, Laneige and Eadem.

Ole Henriksen grew up in rural Denmark, and his road into skin care began in Indonesia, where he was working as a dancer and developed cystic acne. An aesthetician there treated it with botanical remedies, and that sparked his interest. In 1975 he opened his own skin care center in Los Angeles and became known for the Ole Glow facial. A big French luxury group bought the brand in January 2011, and he stayed on as founder and creative director. I like starting with the founder because an Ole Henriksen lip balm is really a skin care product wearing a tint. Pout Preserve arrived in January 2023, built around lip-specific peptides and kokum butter, and Refinery29 called it somewhat of an underrated favorite among editors and influencers at launch. Peach Glaze is a glazed peach tint with a sweet peach scent, Strawberry Sorbet is a mauve pink with strawberry, and Vanilla Bonbon is a sheer tint with a vanilla scent. Chai Drizzle follows the dessert theme. I treat them all like a lip serum that happens to have flavor.

Cool, mini and glimmery

Grid two is the fun corner. The Chillers are a peptide lip treatment with a cooling sensation, in limited-edition tropical shades: Grenada Guava is a coral tint and Maldives Melon is a fuchsia one. The brand lists cloudberry oil and kokum and mango seed butters alongside the peptides. The Pomegranate Fizz Glimmer is the shimmery one, and it also turns up in the mini trio with Vanilla Bonbon and Strawberry Sorbet. My tip is to buy the trio idea, not the shade, meaning try three small tints before committing to one full tube. Wear the cooling ones after you wash your face at night, when a tingle feels like part of the routine and not a surprise in the middle of a meeting. The Glimmer belongs on top of a sheer shade when you want a little light in the center of the lip.

Three brands and a pair

Grid three lines up four takes on peptides. The Plumping Peptide Pair is a mini duo of a Strength Moisturizer and a Strawberry Sorbet Pout Preserve, which shows how Henriksen thinks: face and lips get the same care. Rhode was founded by Hailey Bieber with Michael and Lauren Ratner and launched in June 2022, and its first products were a serum, a moisturizer and the lip treatment that made it famous. Watermelon Slice is the glossy glaze. Laneige began in 1994 at Amorepacific in South Korea, and Glaze Craze brings tinted, donut-inspired shades to a serum with a high-shine finish. Eadem began in 2018 as a lifestyle blog and launched in 2020, and Le Chouchou in Guava Fresca is a petal pink balm with a guava scent. What I would skip is layering three peptide lip products in one morning. The lips end up slick, and you cannot tell which one is doing what.

Keep one by the bed

I keep one of these by the bed, one in the coat pocket, and I have stopped pretending that either has to match the other. Ole Henriksen came to lip care from a facialist's habits, which is why the whole edit reads as skin care with color in it. Start with the shade that smells like something you already like. Give it a week of nights before you judge it. Then decide if you want the cooling one. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together How The Lip Bar Turned a Shark Tank No Into a Detroit Storefront and Shopping for a Dermatologist-Recommended Lip Balm, One Label at a Time. If you like your lip care with a flavor, I also listed the e.l.f. lip balm flavors, from Blueberry to Vanilla Frosting.
