Orange french tip nails swap the white tip for tangerine, peach or burnt orange on a sheer base. Here are the orange-tip press-ons and the polishes to paint your own.
Orange French Tip Nails, a 1970s Idea in a Brighter Color

French Manicure 1970s Origins: White Tip, Swapped
The French manicure is an American invention, usually credited to Jeff Pink, the founder of ORLY. Sources disagree on the year, somewhere between 1975 and 1977. The National's 2014 interview tells the story: a film director wanted nails that worked with every costume change, so Pink asked a supplier for a gallon of white polish, which was unheard of then, and painted tips over pink and beige. He called it the Natural Nail Look, showed it in Paris in 1978, and renamed it on the flight home.
Colored tips came much later. Who What Wear UK was already showing tangerine and neon orange French tips by 2021, and in 2025 a manicurist named Class said clients were asking for orange edges. No one person seems to have started it.
So orange french tip nails are the same idea with a warmer accent: a sheer pink, nude or milky base with a tangerine, burnt orange or peach tip. Kept thin on short nails, Who What Wear UK says, it reads almost neutral. The collage below shows ten ways to wear it, from a thick bar tip and a copper chrome edge to two thin lines and a soft ombre fade.
The first grid is orange-tip press-ons that arrive finished. The second is orange polishes and French bases, for painting your own tip.
Here is a test I like: hold a swatch of orange next to your bare fingertip in daylight. If it looks too loud, keep the tip line thin. If it looks pretty, let it be thick.

Orange-Tip French Press-Ons
Olive & June has most of this grid, and the range is wider than you would expect. Sunset Velvet French pairs a neutral base with a sunset orange tip in a medium oval. Sunrise Velvet French is the same idea with a glowing orange tip in medium almond. Ride Into The Sunset French is a sheer neutral with a bright coral tip, also almond.
Papaya Chrome is bright, corally papaya orange with shimmering chrome, and Bounce Back Chrome French is a tangerine tip topped with chrome in an extra short round. Those two are the shiniest here. Itsy Bitsy Spider French is a shimmering orange French with little spider accents, the one you buy in October.
Chillhouse's Costa Sunset is a Chill Tips kit with 30 nails, a dual-sided buffer and file, a cuticle stick and gentle glue. From the photo the tip is orange with pink and yellow accents. Dashing Diva's Sweet As Candy Corn is semi-cured light nude and orange gel strips with orange tips, orange glitter and pumpkin designs.
Here is a pairing I like: pick your length first. The extra short round suits a thin tangerine line, and the medium almond suits the sheer coral.
What I would skip: the spider and candy corn sets outside of fall. They are fun, but they look like a costume in April, and the plain Sunset Velvet and Ride Into The Sunset go with everything.

Orange Polishes and French Bases
If you paint your own tips, start with the orange. JINsoon has three: Pop Orange, from the Tila March Collection; Hope, from the Graffiti Art Collection, which the photo shows as a bright orange; and Idyll, from the Art Nouveau Collection, a burnt terracotta orange in the photo. The brand gives no more detail, so test them on a nail first.
Olive & June's Papaya Gloss is softer. It is a sheer coral pink, so it makes a gentle tip that reads peach against a pale base. ohora's Apricot Nail Strengthener is a soft, translucent syrup that adds a warm apricot glow to bare nails. Paint it over a base for a wash of orange rather than a hard line.
For the base and the classic white, Kure Bazaar has two. French White is a non-toxic white polish made for the French manicure, meant to glide on glossy and streak-free. The other is a pale pink from its Les Nudes collection, which the brand describes as shades from extreme sheer to opaque gloss, with a luminous sheen from one coat. JINsoon's Kookie White is a milky white from the Color Field Collection.
Here is a trick I like: use the white to make a double French. Draw a thin white line under a thin orange one.
What I would skip: three coats of a sheer base. Kure Bazaar suggests a base coat, one or two coats of color and a top coat, and I would stop there so the tip is what you notice.

Small Line, Big Effect
I think orange tips work best when you are honest about the size of the line. A thick tangerine bar is a statement. A thin one on short nails is barely there, and it makes an ordinary pink base look considered.
My rule of thumb is one orange per hand, one pale base, one glossy top coat. Save the spiders and chrome for the days you want to be looked at.
If you have never tried a color tip, start with a press-on. You can take it off if you decide you prefer white. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Preppy Nails, from Gingham to Pastel French and Garnier, From a French Plant Lotion to Micellar Water and Box Color.
