Splendid is the Los Angeles soft-tee label whose story now reaches from ribbed basics to fall dresses and lounge layers. I’m looking at the pieces through the original promise of softness, then choosing the shapes with enough character to leave the house.

Splendid: The Soft Tee That Grew Into a Fall Uniform
The tee came first
In WWD’s 2022 account, Splendid’s roots begin in Los Angeles with Moise Emquies, who launched the label there in 2002 in pursuit of the most comfortable T-shirt possible. That is a useful origin story for a collection that could otherwise read like a very long list of basics.
Splendid still describes its starting point as the ultimate T-shirt and a love of softness. Delta Galil’s account says the label began as premium tees, then grew into a wider lifestyle collection. In that same WWD story, creative director Holly Shapiro says, “We always say that we are there for our customer’s moments in life, whatever she is going through.” I hear that as permission to take the soft-tee idea in more than one direction.
The Classic Tank in Firework is a fitted red rib knit with a scoop neck and slim straps, the piece I would put under an open shirt first. The Thermal Forever Henley in Blue Mist brings a snap placket and long sleeves, while the white Bamboo Blend Long Sleeve Tee keeps things simple in bamboo with a hint of spandex.
For pattern, the Java and Bamboo Blend Polka Dot Long Sleeve in Java and taupe is a close-fit option; the black Bamboo Blend Long Sleeve Mockneck Tee adds lettuce-edge trim at the cuffs and hem. The navy Classic Long Sleeve Tee uses the brand’s Classic Layering Knit, the Faye Crewneck Tee is fine-ribbed with cap sleeves, and the Louisa Short Sleeve Tee shifts to a boxier, slightly cropped shape. I would check the length and sleeve before choosing, especially if I plan to tuck it under a roomy cardigan.

Zip-ups and lounge sets
In WWD’s 2022 Lyr story, the collection’s name stood for layer, and the pieces were imagined to move between home, bed, work and dinner. I borrow that logic here: a zip-up can be the outer layer at home, then a mid-layer under a coat when October turns brisk.
The Pale Oak Heather Supersoft Lace Trim Zip Up is the one I would put over a tank first, with its two-way zipper and lace at the sleeves. The black Supersoft Lace Trim Crewneck is quieter from a distance, with raglan sleeves and shoulder lace, while the Sweatersoft Zip-Up Hoodie in heather gray gets texture from chevron pointelle. For less coverage, the Java Winslow Mock Neck Pullover has cap sleeves and a center seam; the Java Winslow Zip Up Hoodie keeps an adjustable hood and ribbed edges.
The Praline Scubasoft Short Sleeve Quarter-Zip adds another option, with side slits at the hem. For a full sleep set, the Pale Oak Heather Pillowsoft Sleep Set has a button-front top, contrast piping and a chest pocket; the black Supersoft Zip Up Hoodie is the cleanest top layer in the group. I would check the zipper pull, collar height and sleeve room over the shirt I plan to layer beneath it. What I would skip: choosing a head-to-toe set only because the color matches. I would rather let one detail, the lace, pointelle or piping, do the talking.

Sweaters with a point of view
Fabric gives me a useful first distinction between a quiet crewneck and a sweater that asks to be the whole outfit. WWD describes Splendid’s classic items as made with modal and pima cotton, describing pima as a cotton with extra-long fibers. That soft-basics lineage is a helpful starting point, but this selection has a more decorative streak.
The black Libby Crewneck Sweater, with dropped shoulders and ribbed edges, is the one I would pair with dark denim. The Java Hartford Bobble Cardigan has a scalloped neckline and bobble cable texture, so I would leave its buttons visible. The Libby Polka Dot Crewneck Sweater in taupe and Java brings a tiny allover motif, a neat bridge to the Pale Oak Heather Chandler Collar Sweater, where cable knit meets embellishment, statement buttons and a plush contrast collar.
The Neutral Multi Lola Collar Cardigan has an abstract animal print and faux-fur collar; the black Fletcher Sweater moves the beadwork to the shoulders and neckline. Tori Cashmere Cardigan in Ice Heather gray offers cashmere with a slightly cropped button front, while Sonoma Stripe Cardigan mixes navy, sunflower and white stripes. I would check the collar and shoulder details under a coat, to see whether the outer layer will catch. What I would skip: stacking another loud print beside Lola. One expressive detail is usually enough, and the rest of the outfit can stay plain.
Printed midi and knit dresses
Splendid’s own story centers the ultimate T-shirt and softness; Delta Galil’s description says the brand expanded into women’s knits and wovens, sleepwear and more while keeping that focus. These dresses carry the idea from familiar knit shapes into print, drape and a few deliberate details.
The Brynley Dress in a taupe Bandana print is a silky printed midi with flutter sleeves, lace trim and a bias-cut skirt. I would pair it with a short jacket that leaves the waist and skirt line visible. The Scout Mock Neck Mini Dress uses the same color family in a sleeveless A-line shape with a softly draped neck. The black Winslow Midi Dress is stretch knit with vertical seams; the Java Marigold Sweater Dress adds an oversized turtleneck, cap sleeves and a defined stretch waist.
The Ash Navy and Blue Mist Baylee Maxi Dress has ruffles at the neckline and side slits, while the Pine Sadie Fringe Sweater Dress finishes with fringe at the hem. Eucalyptus Avery Dress brings eyelet and lace trim; the black Darcy Maxi Dress has a gathered bodice and front keyhole. For a fitting-room check, I would see where the waist or seam sits when I raise my arms, then take a full step to see how the skirt and hem move. What I would skip: a long layer that hides the defining neckline or hem. Let one of those details have the frame.
Pants, joggers, and corduroy
The waistband tells me how I would use these trousers before the color does: a drawstring suggests weekend ease, while front pleats can pull a casual look toward daytime. WWD reported that Delta Galil acquired Splendid from VF Corp. in 2016, but the part I keep coming back to is the soft-tee origin and the way that idea travels into other categories.
Java Quinn Cargo Pant has oversized pockets and ankle ties; Indigo Multi Lounge Denim Sporty Pant takes the easy mood into denim with tri-color stripes and a wide leg. Black and Wheat Heather Georgie Sporty Sweater Pant and Libby Polka Dot Sweater Pant in taupe and Java bring side stripes or tiny dots to their knits. Moonstone Scubasoft Sweatpant has patch pockets and a wide leg, while Dark Navy Scubasoft Balloon Jogger rounds out the shape with cuffed ankles.
Pale Oak Heather Supersoft Lace Trim Jogger adds side lace, and the cropped Java Parker Corduroy Trouser Pant changes the texture with front pleats. To choose, I would check the waistband before the hem: whether it sits flat under a tucked tee, and whether the ties, cuffs or cropped length work with the shoes I have in mind. What I would skip: choosing every bottom with a drawstring. One pleated corduroy or striped denim shape keeps the rotation from feeling like sleepwear.
Choosing a first layer
I would decide what role is missing first: a red tank for layering, a sweater with a strong collar, a dress that can stand on its own, or pants with more structure than a jogger. Then I would choose one texture or print to lead and let the rest stay calm.
That keeps the soft-tee idea in view without insisting every look be a tee. I would start with the piece that solves an actual Tuesday morning, then work outward. Los Angeles began with a T-shirt; my shortlist can end anywhere between a rib cuff and a wide trouser hem.
