The New Arrivals Ilkyaz Ozel

İlkyaz Özel spent about a decade working as a freelance fashion stylist in Istanbul before launching The New Arrivals there in 2020, after also founding and running a separate label, Studio'11, from 2017. The brand built its name on eveningwear, especially slip and night dresses, filtered through what she describes as the duality of Mediterranean serenity and indulgence, relaxed daytime ease set against unapologetic nighttime glamour.

Dresses

Slip and night dresses are the pieces that made The New Arrivals recognizable in the first place, and Özel has said her whole design language comes from growing up near the Mediterranean, the colors of its sunsets and sunrises specifically. Her years styling other people's looks before launching her own label show up as a sharp eye for how a dress actually photographs and moves. This grid is closest to the label's founding identity.

More from the collection

This closing stretch fills out the label's range beyond its signature eveningwear, still carrying the same sun-and-sea-inflected sensibility Özel has described in nearly every interview about the brand. The New Arrivals opened its first Paris boutique in 2023, on Rue Rouget de Lisle, extending the label past Istanbul only a few years after it launched. It rounds out the edit without straying from the label's core mood.

Our honest take

Our honest take is that The New Arrivals has moved fast for a label barely five years old, from an Istanbul launch to a Paris boutique on the strength of one clear idea, eveningwear built around Mediterranean glamour rather than a broad, undifferentiated collection. That narrow focus is also the risk: the label is still mostly known for one category, and it will need to prove range beyond slip dresses to last. For now, the eveningwear is the part worth paying attention to.
