The cheap details
Under $378 the edit is mostly eyewear and small jewellery. The Adidas Originals Taekwondo Mei Ballet Flat at $90 is the cheapest item and the only shoe in the bracket. Three pairs of sunglasses sit here, the Bru Eyewear Winnie at $160, The Attico Andrea at $290 and the Versace Square at $325, which is a lot of eyewear for one price band and a useful signal about what this category actually sells. Eliou's Lilou Earrings at $280 are the jewellery entry. On clothing, Tropic of C's Souk Wrap Skirt at $150, Seroya's Marlowe Pant at $348 and Citizens of Humanity's Ciela Balloon Utility Pants at $378 are the three pieces, and the Citizens trousers are the most wearable thing in the bracket.
The $415 to $680 range
The middle bracket is the most varied and the most interesting. Dries Van Noten's Handmade Strass Fringed Bracelet at $415 and Agmes' Short Hilda Earrings at $680 are the two jewellery pieces, and both are sculptural rather than delicate. Two more pairs of sunglasses arrive, the Rick Owens Performa at $460 and the Balenciaga Gossip at $620. On clothing, Staud's Stroll Silk Pant at $425 and Sev's Berthe Doble Satin Top at $600 are the two soft pieces, and Hemant and Nandita's Halter Neck Tiered Maxi at $658 is the only dress in the whole edit. Cult Gaia's Stella Heel at $628 is the only heel here, and we have linked it directly to Cult Gaia rather than to the FWRD listing.
The bags
Above $715 the edit becomes the expensive pieces, and three of the eight are handbags. Saint Laurent's Le 5 a 7 Tote at $3,400 and Mombasa Small at $3,450 are near-identical in price and very different in shape, the first a structured everyday tote and the second the house's curved-handle archive bag. Bottega Veneta's Trio Pouch at $4,100 is the most expensive item in the edit. The clothing here is skirts: Siedres' Sandor at $715, Atlein's Long Skirt at $759 and Magda Butrym's Mini Skort at $1,295. Wardrobe.NYC's Matte Draped Mini Dress at $900 is the only dress at this level. Khaite's Keefe Bracelet at $1,380 is the one piece of fine jewellery in the bracket and the plainest thing in it by some distance.
Our honest take
Five pairs of sunglasses across 24 items is the clearest thing this edit tells you, and it is worth reading as a warning rather than a recommendation. Eyewear is the easiest impulse buy in fashion and the hardest to justify twice. What is genuinely good here is the middle bracket, where the Dries Van Noten bracelet at $415 and the Agmes earrings at $680 are both hand-finished pieces that would carry a plain outfit better than a printed dress would. At the top, the Saint Laurent Le 5 a 7 at $3,400 is the only bag we would call an everyday buy, since the Mombasa and the Trio Pouch are both shapes with narrow uses. If you take one thing away, one strong accessory beats three mild ones.
