Wedding guest nails should look polished in photos without pulling focus from the couple. Here are sheer polishes and milky press-ons that do exactly that.
Wedding Guest Nails That Stay Out of the Bride's Way

Quiet Hands at the Reception
In 2026, Essie's Rita Remark told ELLE that the wedding manicures she recommends include milky, jelly, butter yellow, matcha green and frosted chrome, the last one popularised by Hailey Bieber. Notice what is missing from that list. Nobody is asking you to wear anything loud.
That is the whole idea behind wedding guest nails. There is no dated origin, it is just a search that comes back every season, and the advice from manicurists barely changes. Celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec tells NewBeauty not to upstage the bride, to keep nail art minimal and to keep the length comfortable. Remark adds that neons, aqua, coral and hot pink can distract in photos. So we are talking sheer pinks, nudes, milky whites, soft French tips and pearl.
The collage below shows nine ways to do it, from sheer pink and milky white to a micro French and a blush cat eye. Every one of them is close to skin, which is why they work with almost any dress.
The first grid is polishes and tints for the person who paints her own nails the night before. The second is press-ons and gel strips for the person who would rather not.
Here is a test I like: hold your nails next to the dress or the bouquet color in daylight, not under the bathroom bulb. If the polish disappears into the fabric or sits quietly beside it, you have picked well. If your eye goes straight to your hands, wait for another wedding.
Polishes That Keep Quiet
Start with the softest ones. Londontown's Perfecting Nail Veil is ultra-sheer on purpose, a hint of color with AHAs, biotin and the brand's Florium Complex, so it reads as healthy nails and nothing else. The Tinted Fortifying Ridge Filler in Petal Pink does something similar and adds a smoothing step, filling bumps and ridges with a satin tint. The brand says you can wear it alone or under any polish.
Kure Bazaar has three here. The Les Nudes polish runs from extreme sheer to opaque gloss, and the brand describes the range as non-toxic. Stella is completely sheer with pink, silver and blush speckles, meant to layer over another color when you want a little shimmer for the dance floor. French White is the polish for painting a French tip yourself, and the brand says it glides on streak-free.
For a solid color, Olive & June's Brave Blush is a pastel pink. Hermès makes its nail enamel in 24 shades, with a formula the brand says is at least 71 percent natural origin, and the one pictured is a nude pink. Chanel's Le Vernis is the greige taupe here, a longwear formula with camellia eco-ceramides, according to the brand.
Put your base coat on the night before and your color on the morning of. Two thin coats beat one thick one, and a sheer shade forgives a wobbly line better than a dark one.
What I would skip: painting a French tip in the car. It needs a steady hand and a full dry, and the ceremony will not wait.

Press-Ons and Gel Strips
If a wedding weekend means packing, these are easier than a bottle of polish. Nail Reformation's kits come with everything for an at-home manicure, and the brand says the press-ons can be shaped and reused. The two here are a milky white almond and a pearly lilac. The instructions say to press each nail firmly for 10 to 15 seconds.
ohora's three are the most understated. NP Pure French pairs a transparent skin-toned base with a crisp white tip. NP Blush Beige has a soft smudged ombre and a translucent finish. N Milk Rose starts as milky beige and blends into dusty rose.
Dashing Diva has more shine. Rosewater Glaze is a barely-there rosy ombre in medium almond with a chrome finish, which is as close as I would take you to the frosted chrome that Remark mentions. Pearly Whites are semi-cured nude pink gel strips with white French tips, and Ballerina Blush is a semi-cured pink ombre with a shimmery velvet finish.
Joyee Nails, itself a press-on brand, says shorter shapes and sturdy finishes survive a wedding weekend better than long stilettos. That matches Kandalec's advice about comfortable length, and I would trust both. Apply them a day early so you can fix a stubborn nail before anyone is watching.
What I would skip: any set with a lot of embellishment if the couple has told you the dress code is black tie or very traditional. Keep the sparkle for the after party.
Save the Sparkle
I think the best wedding guest nails are the ones nobody mentions and everybody in the photos looks good next to. Sheer pink, milky white or a soft French will pass in a church, a barn or a beach.
My rule is simple. Pick the color last, after you know the dress, the season and the venue. Do the manicure two days before so it has settled and you have time to fix it. Bring one small bottle or a spare press-on in your bag, because something always catches on a chair. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Sticker Nails and Brittle Nails.
