A glossy, gowns-only edit for a Hudson Valley or Catskills wedding: burgundy, chocolate, bronze, burnt orange, deep green, gold and yellow.
What To Wear To An Upstate New York Wedding

What To Wear To An Upstate New York Wedding
An upstate wedding is not a casual wedding. The invitation says barn, the venue is a restored dairy property with a chandelier in the rafters, and every woman there has planned her look for six weeks. So this edit does one thing. Gowns. Floor length, silk and satin and sequin, in the colours that actually belong in the Hudson Valley in autumn.
The palette runs burgundy, chocolate, bronze, burnt orange, deep green, gold and yellow. Nothing pale, nothing white, nothing that reads like a summer garden party. Forty eight pieces from Moda Operandi, Net-A-Porter, Mytheresa, Farfetch and SSENSE, all of it shoppable now.
Evening shoes, not sandals you would wear to lunch. Tiny bags with crystals and gold, not the leather one you carry every day. This is a dress-up wedding and the edit treats it that way.

Start With Burgundy
Burgundy is the colour that does the most work at an autumn wedding. It reads rich in daylight, it goes almost black under string lights, and it never competes with the bride. It also photographs beautifully against wood, stone and October foliage, which is most of what you will be standing in front of.
The range here goes from a Tom Ford maroon satin column at $3,590 to a Vivienne Westwood crepe satin bustier at $7,910, with a 16Arlington gown at $371 for anyone who would rather spend the budget on the shoes. Look for satin and mikado if you want structure, velvet or crepe if you want drape.
One styling note. Deep burgundy is the easiest gown colour to accessorise, because gold, silver and crystal all work against it. You genuinely cannot get the bag wrong.

Then Chocolate, Bronze And Burnt Orange
Brown is the grown-up choice and it has taken over eveningwear. Chocolate satin in particular looks expensive in a way that black does not, and it flatters warm autumn light instead of fighting it. A Miu Miu strap-detailed satin maxi and a Ralph Lauren Collection silk-duchesse halterneck are both doing exactly that.
Bronze and burnt orange are the braver end. The Marmar Halim pleated ruched gown is a real burnt orange, the Solace London one-shoulder twill is bronze at $860, and the Balenciaga off-shoulder silk is full unapologetic orange for anyone who wants to be the best dressed guest in the room.
If you are nervous about brown, choose satin over crepe. The shine is what separates a chocolate gown from a chocolate day dress, and at a wedding that difference matters.

Deep Green Is The One That Photographs
Every wedding photographer will tell you the same thing about deep green. It holds its colour indoors and out, it looks intentional rather than trendy, and in a group shot it separates you from the row of black and navy without shouting.
The grid runs from a DEME draped silk-satin at $920 to a Valentino Cady Couture crystal-embellished silk gown at $11,200. The Monique Lhuillier strapless bustier and the Oscar de la Renta silk-blend are the two that read most formally black-tie. The FFORME forest green pleated crepe is the quiet one, and the Erdem floral-printed silk-voile is the one to wear if you want print without pastel.
Avoid anything in the mint or apple family. Pale green is a spring bridesmaid colour and it will look wrong in a field in October.

Gold And Yellow, For The Late Ceremony
Gold and yellow are for the wedding that starts at five and ends with dancing. These are the gowns that catch candlelight, and they are the ones people remember the next morning.
There is a real distinction inside this grid. Gold is metallic and textural, like the Marmar Halim pebbled crepe ball gown or the Clio Peppiatt embellished tulle. Yellow is pigment, like the Givenchy belted silk, the Chloe silk mousseline, and the Alaia halter jersey at $3,650, which is the most wearable piece in the whole edit and the one you will actually rewear.
A warning worth taking seriously. Gold sequin and pale gold lame can photograph as ivory under a flash, and ivory at a wedding is a mistake you cannot undo. Every piece here was checked against the product image for that specific reason.

Evening Shoes, Then A Bag The Size Of Your Hand
No ballet flats, no loafers, no block-heel sandals from a summer holiday. A gown needs an evening shoe. Christian Louboutin lace slingbacks and Manolo Blahnik embellished satin pumps are the two safest buys, both under $1,400, and Jimmy Choo gold sandals at $875 are the cheapest way into a metallic. On grass and gravel a slingback or a lower stiletto beats a platform, and a second pair for dancing is not cheating.
The bag is where most wedding outfits fall apart. A leather day bag next to a satin gown looks like you ran out of time. So what follows is minaudieres and crystal clutches only, small enough for a phone and a lipstick and nothing else. Judith Leiber Couture is the reference point, Simkhai does it at $720, and Saint Laurent Micro Minaudiere is the discreet one. Hold it in your hand. Do not put it over your shoulder.

Our honest take
This edit is deliberately narrow. It is gowns, evening shoes and tiny embellished bags, and nothing else, because an upstate wedding with a real dress code does not need a blazer or a day dress in the mix. If your invitation says cocktail rather than black tie, several of these gowns will be more than the occasion asks for.
The prices are honest about what this is. A third of the gowns sit above $5,000, and the cheapest route through the whole story is the 16Arlington gown, the Solace London bronze twill and the Jimmy Choo gold sandals. That is a complete look for under $2,200.
Two real limitations. Deep green had no supply at all from SSENSE or Farfetch, so that grid draws on three retailers instead of five. And colour labels lie, so every piece was checked against its own product photograph. Several that passed the filters on paper were removed once we actually looked at them.
