YSSO Jewelry and Earrings

YSSO Jewelry and Earrings

YSSO was founded in 2020 by Greek mother and daughter Stalo and Alexia Karides, an archaeologist with three decades of jewelry making behind her and a former corporate lawyer who kept getting stopped about her mother's pieces at work. Every design is cast by hand in small batches at family-run workshops in Athens, and the name, pronounced ee-so, comes from chrysso, the Greek word for gold. This edit gathers the sculptural earrings, cord and beaded necklaces, cuffs and rings that read like something unearthed and then polished for today.

Earrings that look excavated

What I love about YSSO is that the archive came first. Stalo spent more than thirty years studying and making jewelry before her daughter suggested they build a brand around it, and you can feel that patience in the earrings. Shells, sea urchins, spirals and crumpled petals all look like they were pulled out of the sea and then cast in gold, but they are light enough to wear to the office. I would start with one sculptural pair and let it be the only loud thing in the outfit.

Cord and beaded necklaces

The cord necklaces are the easiest way into the label: a single cast pendant on black leather, the kind of thing you put on in June and forget to take off until October. The beaded styles in jade and lapis lazuli are a little more formal and look best against a plain white shirt or bare collarbones. Alexia has said she wanted pieces that sit between fashion and fine jewelry, and these are exactly that middle ground.

Cuffs and rings

The cuffs are where the Athens foundry really shows off. Twisted, hammered and folded metal turns a plain bracelet into an object, and the rings carry the same molten, organic shapes on a smaller scale. Stack two cuffs on one wrist for evening, or wear a single one with a knit for the day.

How I would wear it

Pick one hero piece, either a statement earring or a sculpted cuff, and keep everything else quiet around it. YSSO was built to feel like a family heirloom with a modern edge, so it reads best with clean tailoring, linen and simple knits rather than a pile of other jewelry.
