Aisha Baker

Aisha Baker

Aisha Baker is a Dubai high-jewellery house founded in 2017 by the Emirati entrepreneur Aisha Bakhtiar with the designer Hoonik Chang, who trained in jewellery at Central Saint Martins. The pieces are built as narratives, with fairy-tale and fantasy themes running through collections released in tiny editions.

Jewelry

The house works in stories rather than collections. The first high-jewellery outing was Mirror Mirror Masterpieces, and the second, Frozen in Time, launched in January 2020 drawing on traditional Asian ceramics and pottery. Pieces from it were made in editions of five.

More Jewelry

Bakhtiar runs the brand from Dubai; Chang, born in South Korea, trained in London and Paris and has trade-press associations with Cartier, Swarovski and Folli Follie. Named pieces include the Cadeau earrings, in pastel blue enamel with diamonds and drop-shaped yellow topaz, and the Queen of Sheba ring. The naming tells you how literary the design process is.

Our honest take

This is a genuinely small house with a thin public record, and even the founding year wobbles between 2017 and 2018 depending on the source. What is not in doubt is that these are limited-edition high-jewellery pieces rather than production fine jewellery. Buy it because you want something almost nobody else will have.
