Alexandre Mattiussi presented the first Ami Paris collection in January 2011, naming the house after the French word for friend and his own initials. Both halves of the label are here, from heart-motif knitwear to the plainer shirts and denim underneath it.

The Heart Motif, Knitted In
Alexandre Mattiussi presented the first Ami Paris collection in January 2011, after a decade spent working at Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs. He named the house Ami, French for friend, a word that also happens to spell out a contraction of his own name, and the friendliness of that idea still shows up in the knitwear. The house's heart motif, part of its Ami de Coeur identity since 2017, turns up across sweaters, cardigans and polo shirts rather than staying confined to one style.
The ADC intarsia wool sweater shows that motif best, wearing the heart as a knitted pattern rather than a printed logo. The Intarsia wool cardigan softens the same idea into a layering piece instead of a standalone statement. The Intarsia wool polo sweater carries it into a third shape again. Worn with denim or tailoring, the easy proportion keeps the look from turning into a logo exercise.

Parisian Ease, Not Costume
The shirts and denim here carry the same directness as the knitwear, built to survive real wear rather than a single photograph. The Logo-embroidered denim shirt shows the formal training Mattiussi picked up at Dior and Givenchy in how cleanly the embroidery sits on a plain workwear shape. The ADC embroidered cotton Oxford shirt applies the same small mark to a dressier cloth, so it can move between casual and slightly dressed up without changing character. The Pleated wool-gabardine wide-leg pants and the Mid-rise wide-leg jeans round out the range with a silhouette that needs almost no styling to look considered. Choose the cleanest shape to repeat, then add one embroidered piece for the point of view.

Dress For A Friend
Ami Paris works because it knows the difference between relaxed and vague, and that shows up in how cleanly each piece is finished even when the silhouette is loose. The clothes have a clear line, but they are built to be lived in rather than displayed as proof of taste, which is part of why the heart motif reads as affectionate rather than showy. Denim and shirting do the daily work, while the knitwear carries whatever mood an outfit needs that day. I would start with the piece I would lend to a friend without worrying about it, since that is the real test of whether something belongs in a wardrobe rather than a closet. Keep the styling as generous and unfussy as the label's own name suggests.
