Amrapali

Amrapali

Amrapali was founded in Jaipur in 1978 by Rajiv Arora and Rajesh Ajmera, two school friends with history degrees, no jewellery background and about four hundred rupees of savings. They started out selling carved wooden boxes, then toured rural Rajasthan buying antique tribal silver to take apart and rebuild.

Jewelry

The founding technique was disassembly: buying old rural silver necklaces and reworking them into earrings, nose pins and pendants, which made every piece one of a kind. A customer question about garnets in the late seventies is what pointed them at Jaipur's gemstone trade in the first place. The range moved from silver to semi-precious stones to gold and diamonds over roughly two decades, one step at a time.

Our honest take

The house is still family run, with Rajiv Arora's son Tarang as creative director and chief executive, and it manufactures in-house with more than fifteen hundred artisans across three Jaipur units. In January 2018 it opened the Amrapali Museum of Jewellery in Jaipur to house the roughly three thousand antique pieces the founders collected from the seventies onward. Alia Bhatt wore its Golconda Rose necklace to the Cannes opening ceremony in May 2026, which is the clearest statement of where the high-jewellery line now sits.
