CANO began as a family obsession, not a fashion label: in Bogotá, Guillermo Cano trained as a goldsmith in Germany before opening a boutique in 1968 to recreate the pre-Columbian gold pieces his grandfather Nemesio had unearthed decades earlier. Its defining fact is a license, not a trend: CANO is the only jewelry house authorized by the Banco de la República's Gold Museum to reproduce pieces from its collection, using the same lost-wax casting the original goldsmiths used.

Jewelry
Start with the pieces that read most literally as artifact reproduction: hammered discs, cast pendants, the kind of high-relief gold work Guillermo Cano learned to replicate after training in Pforzheim. These are not abstractions of ancient forms, they are licensed continuations of them, which is a strange and rare claim for a jewelry brand to be able to make honestly.

More Jewelry
The second wall goes further into the archive, toward the smaller, stranger shapes that show up when five generations of a family spend a century chasing burial sites instead of runway trends. There is a folk-museum logic to how these pieces sit next to each other, more archaeology than accessory, and that is very much the point.

Our honest take
CANO's pitch is unusually well documented for a jewelry brand this size: a real license, a real museum relationship, a family lineage you can actually trace back to a 19th-century discovery. The risk is that heritage this specific can start to feel like a costume if it is worn without any awareness of where the forms came from, so treat these as pieces with a real backstory rather than just gold jewelry with a good story attached.
