Cristiano Marcheli

Cristiano Marcheli

Cristiano Marcheli is an Athens label started in 2021 by designer Maria Chelioti, who named it for her late father and built the brand's palette around Milan and the Greek coast. This edit focuses on the kaftans, cover-ups and printed dresses that carry that warm weather point of view.

Kaftans Set The Tone

Maria Chelioti started Cristiano Marcheli in 2021 out of Athens, naming it for her late father Cristiano and drawing the surname from the initials of her own name. She has described the label as a meeting point between the energy of Milan, where she studied, and the coastal colors of her native Greece, and the kaftans here show that mix best. The Maria cotton kaftan keeps things plain and breathable, a simple shape built for heat rather than occasion. The Eleonora floral-embroidered silk-trimmed broderie anglaise kaftan goes the opposite direction, layering embroidery onto the same loose silhouette for something dressier.

Printed silk-blend satin dresses, the Anna and Caterina halterneck maxi styles and the Sofia midi, round out the group in a more fitted, going-out shape. Together the pieces cover both ends of resortwear, from beach cover-up to evening dress.

Prints Move Into Separates

The second group moves the label's prints off dresses and onto separates instead. The Giulia printed silk-twill scarf carries the print in its most portable form, easy to add to a plain outfit without committing to a full look. Linen shows up in the Valeria ruffled embroidered blouse and the Elena floral-embroidered drawstring shorts, both looser and more casual than the silk dresses elsewhere in the edit. The Allegra tiered striped silk-blend maxi dress keeps some of that resortwear energy in dress form but adds tiering and stripes for more movement.

Along with the Maria printed silk-blend satin coverup, the group makes the case that Chelioti's prints work as accents, not just as full statement pieces.

One Print At A Time

Cristiano Marcheli works because the prints and embroidery feel tied to one designer's own archive and family story rather than a generic seasonal trend. The kaftans are the strongest pieces here, loose enough to be practical over swimwear and detailed enough to hold their own once the beach day is over. The scarf, blouse and shorts are the easiest way into the label if a full kaftan or maxi dress feels like too much commitment, and I would start there before spending on a full gown. The embroidered pieces, like the Eleonora kaftan and the Valeria blouse, are worth prioritizing over the plainer printed dresses, since those are easier to find elsewhere in a similar spirit. Pair one printed piece with something plain, rather than layering several prints from the same rack together.
