Gold earrings that handle a full workday and a beach afternoon, from BaubleBar's demi-fine range. Drops, huggies and hoops under $130, picked by SVP of global media Marissa Grossman, plus what saltwater really does to gold plating.
Desk to Beach: Which Gold Earrings Survive Both

Desk to beach, without a second pair
Gold earrings handle both a workday and a beach day when three things are true: the plating is thick, the stones sit in closed bezel or channel settings, and the pair is light enough that you stop noticing it by mid-morning. Most costume jewelry fails the first test. Most solid gold passes every test and then makes you anxious on a beach towel. Demi-fine sits between the two, and that is where this edit lives. Every pair here is 14K or 18K gold plated over thick sterling silver, drawn from BaubleBar's demi-fine range, and nothing here costs more than $128.
The picks belong to SVP of global media Marissa Grossman, who wears the same earrings from a 9am call through a Friday afternoon on the sand. Her rule is short. One pair of drops that reads as dressed. One pair of huggies that never comes off. No third decision to make at seven in the morning. The drops come first, because they do the most visible work. Everything in both grids is available now and priced between $44 and $128.
The drops, $44 to $98

What saltwater actually does to gold plating
Plating is thinner than most people picture. Gold plating typically measures between 0.5 and 2.5 microns, against a human hair at roughly 100 microns, so the gold sitting over the sterling silver is genuinely delicate (Branvas, March 2026). Salt water and chlorine both speed up wear on that layer, and repeated soaking is what dulls a bright pair at the edges first (Kesheen, June 2026). So the honest version of a beach earring is not a swim earring. Wear them on the sand, take them out before the water, and rinse with fresh water and dry them if they get splashed.
Weight decides everything else. A drop that swings is fine for eight hours at a desk and irritating after twelve, which is why the second half of this edit is huggies and hoops. A huggie sits flush against the lobe, survives a phone pressed to your ear, and does not catch on a linen shirt or a tote strap. Buy one of each and the rotation runs itself. Store them dry and apart from each other, since plated pieces scratch plated pieces.
The huggies and hoops, $64 to $128

Our honest take
We would buy two pairs here and skip the rest. The Fallon bezel drop is the one that earns its place, because a single stone in a closed setting reads as expensive from across a conference table and costs $64. Pair it with the Annalise huggies at $64 and you have covered nearly every occasion this edit is about. What we would not buy is the novelty end of the drops. The lucky clover is charming for a weekend and it dates fast, so treat it as a third purchase rather than a first. The Lyanna strands are lovely and they are also the longest thing here, which makes them an evening pair, not a desk pair. If you take one thing away, it is this: buy the pair you can put in half asleep and forget about, and let the interesting pair be the second one.
