Eucerin Sunscreen Picks, and What the FDA Still Wants to Know

Every Eucerin sunscreen here comes from Beiersdorf, which says it has cared for skin since 1882, and the US rules behind these bottles are older than most people think. Here are sixteen sunscreens, eight from Eucerin and eight I keep beside them, including four mineral formulas.

A Rulebook From the Late 1990s

American sunscreen moves slowly. In June 2026 the FDA approved bemotrizinol, a filter Europe has used since 2000, and the agency's own announcement called it the first new active ingredient added to the over-the-counter sunscreen monograph since the late 1990s. The delay comes down to paperwork. In the US, sunscreen is regulated as an over-the-counter drug, while Europe treats it as a cosmetic.

That history is useful when you read a Eucerin sunscreen label. Every Eucerin bottle in this edit uses the same four chemical filters: avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene. In its 2019 proposed rule, the FDA said only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide had the data to be called safe and effective, and it asked for more safety information on twelve other filters, including those four. Asking for more data is not the same as calling something unsafe. Still, if you would rather wear a mineral formula, it helps to know which bottle is which.

Eucerin belongs to Beiersdorf, the Hamburg company that says it has been caring about skin since 1882, and it sits on the dermo-cosmetics side of that business. You can feel it in the formulas. They are fragrance free, non-comedogenic and made for sensitive skin more than for a beach bag.

The first grid is all Eucerin, from face lotions to a body spray. The second grid has the sunscreens I keep beside them, four of them mineral. My tip: use two finger-lengths of lotion for your face and neck, and reapply every two hours outside.

Eight Eucerin Sunscreens, Face to Body

Age Defense SPF 50 is the one I would start with. It is a face lotion with five antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, it is fragrance free and non-comedogenic, and it sits well under makeup. The Tinted version is the same idea with a universal tint, so it evens things out a little on a no-makeup day. Clear Skin is the pick for oily or acne-prone skin, with oil-absorbing minerals and a matte, dry-touch finish.

Radiant Tone is the odd one out. It is SPF 30, not 50, but it carries Thiamidol, the ingredient Eucerin uses for dark spots, so it does two jobs in one morning step.

For the body, Advanced Hydration comes as a lotion and a spray, both SPF 50 and water resistant for 80 minutes, with hyaluronic acid and a dry-touch finish. The spray is the easiest way I know to cover your own back. Daily Hydration SPF 30 is a richer cream for dry skin, and the SPF 15 lotion comes in a big 16.9 ounce bottle for errands and dog walks.

All eight carry the same four filters, so choose by texture and skin type rather than by the active list.

What I would skip: the SPF 15 lotion for a beach day or a long run outside. Save it for short everyday exposure, and use one of the water-resistant SPF 50 formulas when you will be swimming or sweating.

Four Mineral Formulas and Four More Favorites

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector is the most reviewed sunscreen in this edit. It is an SPF 60+ lotion for face and body, and the brand says its protection gets stronger with heat and water, which is exactly what you want at the beach. Supergoop PLAY is the simpler everyday lotion, SPF 50 and water and sweat resistant for 80 minutes.

Kiehl's has two here. Better Screen UV Serum SPF 50+ is a light serum with collagen peptide, and it wears like skin care. Better Screen Miner-all is the mineral version, with nano zinc oxide and cica for sensitive, easily red skin.

The other mineral picks are Caudalie Vinosun, a silicone-free SPF 50 with non-nano zinc oxide, niacinamide and grapevine viniferine for dark spots; ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica, a water-resistant zinc oxide formula with DNA Repairsomes that doubles as a makeup base; and Eau Thermale Avène Mineral SPF 50, a creamy face and body lotion with 100 percent mineral filters and the brand's thermal spring water.

Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day is a chemical SPF 40 stick with hyaluronic acid. It is the one for touch-ups over makeup, because you can swipe it on without disturbing anything.

What I would skip: a stick as your only sunscreen for the day. It is hard to apply enough that way, so use a lotion in the morning and keep the stick for reapplying at lunch.

Pick the One You Will Reapply

I think the best Eucerin sunscreen is the one that matches your day. For a desk and a commute, Age Defense or Clear Skin is plenty. For the beach, reach for the water-resistant Advanced Hydration spray and reapply after 80 minutes in the water. If filters matter to you, the mineral bottles in the second grid are the easy swap. The FDA took more than twenty years to add a single new filter, so the part you can control is how much you use and how often.
