Favorite Daughter

Favorite Daughter

Favorite Daughter launched in Los Angeles in December 2020, built by sisters Erin and Sara Foster in partnership with Centric Brands, the company behind Joe's Jeans and Hudson. The name started life as a joke, a sweatshirt slogan from an old Instagram collaboration that sold out faster than anything else in the capsule, and the sisters built an entire line around designing the pieces they felt were missing from their own closets.

Tops and shirting

Shirting is close to the brand's founding logic, since the Fosters have said repeatedly that Favorite Daughter exists to fix the gaps in their own wardrobes rather than to chase a runway idea. The tops lean toward pieces that work across a full day, not just a photo. It is the same instinct that turned a sweatshirt joke into a business.

Trousers and shorts

Trousers and shorts are where the brand's promise of practical, wearable clothing for busy women gets tested most directly. Erin and Sara Foster have talked about designing for their own active schedules, on camera and off. The category favors ease over anything fussy.

Skirts

Skirts round out a line that was profitable by its second year, according to Sara Foster, and has kept expanding methodically since its 2020 launch. The pieces stay in line with the label's original pitch: clothes that fit an actual day rather than an aspirational one. It is a smaller category for a brand still best known for its separates.

Jackets and blazers

Outerwear and tailoring show how far Favorite Daughter has come from its origin as a novelty sweatshirt collaboration with Suburban Riot in 2018. Centric Brands, the company behind Joe's Jeans and Hudson, gave the Fosters the production backing to build out a full line rather than a one off capsule. The tailoring here is meant to be worn, not just photographed.

More from the collection

The rest of the edit covers what a five year old, fast scaling label adds once its core categories are established, including the beauty line the brand launched with Saint Jane in 2023. Favorite Daughter has said it is aiming for significant growth in retail sales this year. This is the wider assortment behind that ambition.

Our honest take

Favorite Daughter's origin story, a joke sweatshirt that outsold everything else in its capsule, is the rare celebrity brand founding that is actually funny and true. The Fosters have leaned into that self awareness rather than pretending the label sprang from pure design ambition. The clothes themselves are more workhorse than statement, which seems to be exactly what the sisters set out to make.
