Gemella Jewels

Gemella Jewels

Gemella Jewels is run by twin sisters Anna and Rachel Aschendorf out of New York, third-generation jewelers whose grandparents Fred and Stella built a jewelry business from scratch after surviving the Holocaust, eventually settling in the German jewelry town of Pforzheim. The sisters trained properly first, GIA and Diamond District certifications between them, before naming the label Gemella, Italian for twin, and leaning on the bezel settings their grandmother favored back in the 1950s rather than chasing whatever stone cut is trending.

Jewelry

The heart-shaped Sweetheart motif and the Bubble Bezel are the two ideas the label keeps returning to, both born out of a family history in bezel-set stones rather than a mood board. Anna and Rachel work in 18K gold and treat each piece as something meant to be worn daily, not saved for an occasion.

More Jewelry

The rest of the range extends the same vocabulary further, more bezels, more talisman-style pieces meant to be layered and mixed rather than treated as a single statement. It is the kind of range you'd expect from two people who grew up around a family jewelry business rather than two people who just started one.

Our honest take

There is real craft history behind Gemella, and it shows in choices like the bezel setting that a lot of newer fine jewelry labels skip because it is less flashy than a prong. The brand's own anti-trend framing is mostly earned, though a signature this recognizable does start to look familiar across a range this large.
