Breeana Smith and Iuliia Ievdokymenko founded L'IDÉE in Australia in 2019, splitting the label between Smith's brand and commercial direction and Ievdokymenko's design and production work based in Bali. The whole point of the label is engineered, heat-set pleating in saturated colour, a technique Smith traces back to a trip to Paris and her grandmother's vintage pleated skirt.
L'IDÉE

Dresses
Dresses are essentially the entire L'IDÉE proposition, which is why this edit is organized around just one category. The pleating is engineered and heat-set rather than pressed by hand each time, a production choice that lets the label hold sharp, sculptural shapes in colour combinations most occasionwear brands avoid. It reads as maximalist, but the construction underneath is technical and deliberate.

Our honest take
L'IDÉE has built a genuinely specific signature, that engineered pleat in saturated colour, out of a label barely five years old, and its debut Australian Fashion Week runway leaned into exactly that identity rather than diluting it. The narrowness is also the limitation: with only one category in this edit, there is not much room to see whether the brand has ideas beyond the pleat. For now, it is doing one thing and doing it with real conviction.
