Live Tinted and the Red Lipstick Trick That Started Deepica's Brand

Live Tinted began with Deepica Mutyala and one viral video about hiding dark circles, and it grew into a full makeup and skin shelf formulated with deeper skin tones in mind. This edit covers the sticks and wands, the Hueguard sunscreens and concealer, and the lip, cheek and brow products.

Here is the origin I keep coming back to. In 2015 Deepica Mutyala posted a video in which she used red lipstick to hide her under-eye circles, and it went viral. The trick rests on color theory, since a warm red or orange tone cancels out the blue-brown shadow that a beige concealer only paints over. That video became the seed for Live Tinted, which she founded in January 2018 as a digital platform before there was a single product.

The first product arrived in May 2019, and it was Huestick, an eye, lip and cheek multistick. I love that the debut was a tool for a specific problem and not a pile of shades. It made sense of the video, and it told people what the brand was about: pigment that works on real skin tones, with a reason behind it.

The first grid is the stick family. HUESTICK Color Corrector is the direct descendant of the lipstick trick. Huestick Lip and Cheek Multistick is the one for quick color, dabbed on with a finger. Superhue is a hyperpigmentation serum in stick form. Magic Blur Primer Stick goes on before anything else, and Huestick Click CC Brightening Wand is the click-up wand for brightening.

Start with the corrector under the eye, pat it in, then lay a light concealer over it only where you need it. Less product, more correction. If the shadow is deep, a second thin pass works better than one heavy layer, and it is worth letting the stick warm on your fingertip first so it spreads evenly. Finish with a dusting of anything you already own.

Sunscreen, tint and a serum concealer

Mutyala's second big moment was about sun, and the second grid is the Hueguard line. The original Hueguard is a mineral sunscreen, primer and moisturizer, and it had a 10,000-person waitlist before its July 13 release. I remember that number because sunscreen is usually not something people queue for.

The 3-in-1 Mineral Sunscreen, Moisturizer, Primer is the original idea. The Invisible Sunscreen Stick is the swipe-on format, easy to carry and reapply, and the Invisible Body Mist is the spray for the body. Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen is a broad spectrum tint, good on days when I want an even finish and some sun protection in one step. Read each label for its SPF and directions, and reapply as the label says, especially if you are outside.

Then there is Hueskin Hydrating Serum Concealer, which is the piece I would add if you want a concealer that feels like skincare. It is the one I would layer over the corrector from the first grid.

My order on a normal morning: moisturizer or the 3-in-1, tint if I want it, corrector only where I see shadow, concealer on top of that, and the stick in my bag for midday. It takes less time than it sounds and it looks like skin, not like a base. On days I skip the tint, the stick and a dab of concealer are enough, and nobody asks what I am wearing.

Glow, gloss and a brow gel

The third grid is where the color goes on top, and my rule stays the same: glow that looks like light on skin, not glitter sitting on it.

Hueglow Liquid Highlighter Drops are the liquid option, which I tap on the tops of the cheekbones. HUELIGHTER Multi-Dimensional Highlighter is the one for when you want a clearer shine. Huebeam Gradient Blushing Bronzer gives you warmth and color in one product, and Blush Crush Liquid Blush is the quick option, a few dots and a blend. Huegloss Hydrating High-Shine Lip Gloss is the lip product here, and the name promises hydration and shine. Huebrow Clear Setting Eyebrow Gel finishes the face and keeps brows in place without adding color.

What I would skip: applying liquid products over a dry, flaky base, and piling highlighter everywhere. Liquid blush and drops are happiest on skin that is already moisturized, and one spot of shine per cheek is plenty. I would also skip blending with a dry sponge, since a slightly damp one or your fingertips will warm the formula and make it disappear into the skin.

Try the blush first, high on the cheeks, and build it only if you need to. Then glance at the gloss in daylight, since a high-shine finish looks different outdoors than under a bathroom bulb.

Putting a face together in five minutes

When I want five minutes and a face, I work in layers of function, not layers of product. Sun protection first, a little correcting, a little glow, then the brow gel. That is the whole list.

The test I use is a mirror by a window. If you can see skin, not product, you are done. If you can see a line where the concealer stops, pat with a finger until it fades. Live Tinted works best for me when the routine stays light, and when each stick has a clear job. Carry one stick and the brow gel, and you can fix most mornings on the train. Wash your hands first, tap rather than drag, and keep caps closed so the sticks stay clean and smooth for months of daily use.
