French contemporary labels occupy a narrow band between high street and designer, and most of them blur together. maje holds its position by committing almost entirely to knitwear. This edit runs through the dresses and cardigans currently available.
Maje Is French Girl Dressing Without The Cliche

Knitwear As The Whole Proposition
Most contemporary brands treat knit as one category among several, which means the knitting itself is bought in rather than designed. Building a range around it, as this label does, changes the economics and the result: ruffles, jacquards, layering and tiering all get executed in knit rather than in woven fabric. That produces dresses that move differently and travel better than their woven equivalents. The reference is Parisian day dressing rather than anything on a runway, which is precisely the register this part of the market wants.
Maxis, Minis And The Cardigan
Flora mixed knit and Ritakette ruffled knit maxi dresses are the longest pieces and the most textural. Rablina button front and Rouras ruffled knit dresses cover the midi ground, with Rablina the most conventional. Ritorsa layered sweater mini and Raffina knit skater dress are the shortest, and the Raffina has the most movement. Ruffinelaty ruffled tiered dress is the most decorated thing here and the Mowill jacquard sequin crewneck cardigan is the only maje piece in this set that is not a dress.
Our honest take
Knit dresses cling in a way woven ones do not, and that is either flattering or unforgiving depending on the gauge, with finer gauges being the less forgiving. They also grow through the day and shrink back on washing, which reads as inconsistent sizing and is normal knit behaviour. Ruffles in knit hold their shape better than in woven fabric but flatten under a coat and stay flattened. Sequinned knit cannot be machine washed. If you take one thing away, buy a heavier gauge if you are unsure, because it hides more and holds shape longer.
