Matthew Bruch launched his namesake label for spring/summer 2020 after graduating from Pratt Institute's fashion design program and working for several other lifestyle brands. He built the line around a specific gap he saw in resort wear, easy vacation staples and swimwear designed with more restraint than the ruffled, printed norm, produced in New York from Italian and French fabrications.

Tops and shirting
The shirting carries over Bruch's original resort-wear premise, pieces meant to move from a vacation into a city wardrobe without feeling like a costume change. It is a more restrained read on warm-weather dressing than the label's early competitors, closer to a considered shirt than a print-heavy souvenir.

Trousers and shorts
Trousers and shorts are where the brand's Pratt training shows up most plainly, clean construction over embellishment, aimed at the same traveler Bruch designed his debut collection for. The European fabrications sourced from Italy and France do a lot of the work in how these actually wear.

Dresses
Dresses extend the label's original vacation-staple idea into something a little dressier, still built around ease rather than complicated shapes. That restraint was the whole premise Bruch started with in 2019, and it still reads as the throughline.
More from the collection
The rest of the edit reflects how the label has grown since its 2020 debut, from a swim-and-staples collection into what the brand itself describes as a fuller lifestyle offering. It is still a young, founder-run business, so the range stays tightly edited rather than sprawling.

Our honest take
Matthew Bruch is a young label without decades of archive or a marquee industry moment behind it, which means the case for it rests on the actual premise: a Pratt-trained designer building considered resort wear as an alternative to the genre's louder instincts. That is a narrower story than some houses in this edit can tell, but it is a coherent one, and the clothes hold up on that basis alone.
