Maygel Coronel

Maygel Coronel

Maygel Coronel is the Colombian designer who founded her namesake label in Cartagena de Indias in 2017, after training in patternmaking in Bogota and Cartagena and studying fashion design at the Accademia della Moda in Naples. She built the brand on second-skin construction, sleek bodysuits and swimwear designed to fit a range of bodies, an idea she developed herself after being told a fitted swimsuit line would only work for one body type.

Dresses

The dresses carry over the same fitted, body-conscious construction Coronel built her name on in swimwear, monochrome, streamlined, meant to move with the body rather than structure around it. It is a Cartagena sensibility as much as a technical one, designed for heat and for a coastline life.

Skirts

Skirts here lean into the same second-skin logic, minimal seaming, close cut, built to pair easily with the label's tops and bodysuits. It is a quieter category for the brand but it still reads as unmistakably hers.

More from the collection

The rest of the assortment fills out the wardrobe around those core pieces, tops, cover-ups and separates that follow the same fitted, monochrome approach Coronel has used since her earliest swimwear. It is a range built for one coherent aesthetic rather than a grab bag of trends.

Our honest take

Coronel earned this reputation from the ground up, teaching herself patternmaking and developing her own fabric approach before any major stockist picked her up, and the 2019 Latin American Fashion Summit win backs up that the industry noticed. The silhouette is narrow by design, so it rewards people who already like a fitted, minimal look more than anyone hunting for volume.
