Louise de Rothschild and Keagan Ramsamy, who met working in the jewelry department of the Paris auction house Pierre Bergé, founded Mazarin in 2022. They named the house after Cardinal Mazarin, the 17th-century minister whose collection of exceptional diamonds became legendary, and built their own version of that history on lab-grown diamonds and recycled gold rather than antique stock.

Jewelry
Both founders spent years appraising other people's antique jewelry at auction before deciding to make their own, which explains a house name borrowed from a 17th-century diamond collector rather than a person on staff. The pieces here read as their answer to that history: recognizably classic in silhouette, deliberately built with newer materials.

More from the collection
Mazarin's stated position is that a jewel's story matters more than its carat weight, a very auction-house way of thinking about value. This second grouping keeps to the same idea, jewelry meant to be worn rather than kept as an investment.
Our honest take
Mazarin's pitch is unusually specific for a young house: real gemological training, an actual name from French royal history, and an explicit choice of lab-grown stones over mined ones. It is a newer label than most on Moda Operandi, so there is less of a track record to lean on, but the founders' backgrounds at Christie's and Pierre Bergé are the real thing.
