Prada Paradigme Eau de Parfum Starts With the Base and Works Up

Prada Paradigme Eau de Parfum arrived in 2025 with a reversed pyramid, a refillable bottle and a woody amber heart. Here is the Paradigme family with Luna Rossa Black, the Ocean and Carbon side of the Luna Rossa line, and six woody amber colognes from other houses to wear next to it.

Prada Paradigme Eau de Parfum came out in 2025, and what I like about it is that the idea is easy to explain. Most men's fragrances are written like a slide: a loud citrus opening that slides down into a quiet base. Paradigme is built in a reversed pyramid, base notes first, which Prada says echoes its triangle logo. The brand lists ambery woods, bourbon geranium and Calabrian bergamot as the key notes, and it was composed by three perfumers, Marie Salamagne, Bruno Jovanovic and Nicolas Bonneville.

On skin, that structure means it does not feel like a cologne you have to wait out. The woody amber is there from the first spray, and the bergamot reads as a bright edge on top of it instead of a burst that disappears in ten minutes. Two sprays on the chest and one on the neck is plenty. It is a good evening scent, and a good one for a cold office.

The bottle is refillable, and Prada says a 150ml refill saves glass, plastic and metal compared with buying three 50ml bottles. That is a rare case of a practical detail I would actually use, because it means the bottle on the shelf can stay the bottle on the shelf.

Paradigme Le Parfum is the same idea in a more concentrated form, so if you like the eau de parfum and want it to stay on your collar longer, start there. Next to them sits Luna Rossa Black Eau de Parfum, a darker, more spiced Prada for nights when the first one feels too polite.

Luna Rossa, from sea air to steel

Luna Rossa is the line most men know Prada for, and it has a clear place in the brand's history. Prada's license agreement with L'Oréal came into effect on 1 January 2021, and Luna Rossa Ocean, from 2021, was the first Prada fragrance launched under it. So the Ocean bottles here are the start of the current chapter, not a side project.

Ocean comes in three forms in this edit: Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and Le Parfum. The Eau de Toilette is the lightest, the one I would put on after a run or a beach afternoon, when you want something that smells clean and does not sit heavy in the heat. The Eau de Parfum is denser and lasts through a longer day. Le Parfum is the concentrated version, the one for colder evenings, where a little goes a long way.

Carbon is the other branch. It comes as an Eau de Parfum and an Eau de Toilette, and the name gives away the mood: darker, more metallic, a little more technical. I would wear Carbon on a gray day, with a wool coat, not on a hot patio.

A tip that helps with any of these: try one on each wrist, one from Ocean and one from Carbon, and wait an hour before deciding. The sea air smell and the steel smell stop being similar after about twenty minutes, and that is when you know which one is yours.

Woody amber, other houses

Not every man wants a Prada, and a woody amber is one of the easiest families to explore across houses. These six are the ones I would put next to Paradigme on a shelf, each for a slightly different reason.

Yves Saint Laurent's MYSLF Eau de Parfum is the modern, soft, everyday woody, easy to wear on a first date or a flight. Dior's Sauvage Eau de Parfum is the famous one, peppery and warm, a bottle half the men you know have in a drawer. Azzaro's The Most Wanted Parfum leans sweeter and more amber, a scent for the evening when you want to be noticed from a few steps away.

Valentino's Uomo Born in Roma Intense Eau de Parfum is darker and richer, better in autumn. Armani Beauty's I Will Eau de Parfum with Vanilla is the softest of the set, warm and a little creamy, the one I would hand to someone who says they do not like cologne. Tom Ford's Ombré Leather Eau de Parfum is the leather one, and the most distinctive on the list.

What I would skip: buying a bottle from a single spray on a paper strip. Woody ambers change a lot once they warm up on skin, and the paper only shows you the opening. I would also skip layering two strong woody scents on the same day, since they tend to fight instead of blend.

Picking one bottle and wearing it well

To choose between all of these, think about the day, not the bottle. Something light for work and warm weather, something dense for dinner, and one you grab without thinking for everything else.

Spray on clean, slightly moisturized skin, because dry skin lets a scent disappear faster. Aim for the chest and the sides of the neck, not the wrists rubbed together, which dulls the top notes. Give any new bottle three wears before you decide. The first is the excitement, the second is the truth, and the third is if you still reach for it.

If you want a place to start, Paradigme is the bottle I would put first. It has an idea behind it, it lasts, and the refill means you will not need to shop for another one for a good long while.
