Renato Cipullo

Renato Cipullo

Renato Cipullo was born in Naples and grew up in Rome in a family of jewelers, later opening a boutique on Ischia in 1967 before settling in New York, where his brother Aldo designed Cartier's Love bracelet. He launched his own jewelry collection in 1974, drawing on years spent by the sea for motifs in shell, coral and gold that still recur in his work.

Jewelry

Cipullo grew up in a household where jewelry making was the family trade, learning technique from his father's workshop before ever designing under his own name. His first collection, launched in 1974, took its cues from a childhood and young adulthood spent near the water, which is still visible in the recurring shell and coral references here. This is heritage you can actually trace.

More Jewelry

A second grid of this scale reflects decades of a working jeweler's output rather than a single seasonal concept, since Cipullo has been designing under his own name in New York since the 1970s. The pieces continue his interest in nature and antiquity, filtered through an Italian sensibility. Expect the same handmade specificity as the first grid, in different forms.

Still more Jewelry

By the third grid, the range of Cipullo's output becomes the point: this is a working bench jeweler's archive, not a single capsule idea. His daughter Serena, trained in architecture and art history, now works alongside him and trains at the bench herself, which suggests the house's approach is being carried forward rather than simply licensed out. Worth digging through slowly.

Our honest take

The Cipullo name carries real jewelry-world weight, mostly because of Renato's own decades at the bench and his brother Aldo's outsized legacy at Cartier, and the pieces here read as the product of hands-on craft rather than a marketing exercise. It is a lot of jewelry to sort through across three grids, so go in with a sense of what motif, shell, coral or otherwise, you are actually looking for. The reward is pieces with a genuine, checkable history behind them.
