SHAY

SHAY

It all started as mother daughter project between Tanaz and Ladan Shayan, after Tanaz made herself a woven chain link bracelet in high school that a Beverly Hills boutique asked to sell. The original link bracelet's chain motif, stuck and carried from costume pieces into the fine gold and diamond jewelry the viral brand makes today.

Jewelry

This grid traces back most directly to SHAY's origin story, the link bracelet a teenage Tanaz made for herself that ended up in a Beverly Hills store before there was any label around it. What started as costume jewelry moved into gold and diamonds once client demand for natural stones picked up. The chain link detail from that first piece still shows up across the current range.

More Jewelry

A second grid widens out from the signature link motif into the rest of the mother daughter design partnership, mixing the pair's shared taste for vintage-inspired pieces with more contemporary settings. Ladan's long interest in antique jewelry shaped that side of the collection, according to the family's own account of the label. It is a more varied grid than the first, but still recognizably one house.

Our honest take

Our honest take is that SHAY's strongest asset is the specificity of its founding story, a single bracelet made for personal use that a store wanted to sell, rather than a brand built backward from a market gap. That kind of origin tends to age better than a strategy memo. It is worth shopping the label for the link bracelet lineage as much as for any individual piece.
