A styling guide to platform sandals, midi dresses and clutches, weighing volume, proportion and how much height an outfit needs.
The Platform Sandal Makes a Case for Height

A platform changes the walk as much as the proportion, so the first question is not whether it looks dramatic but whether you can move in it. The grid ranges from slippers and mules to wedges and sandals, with enough variety to make a fitting-room test essential. Andrea Gomez's Bella Velvet Platform Sandals cost $430, and even a modest rise can change proportion. Toteme's Suede Platform Sandals reach $990; Christian Louboutin's Calakala 85mm Metallic Leather Platform Sandals are $995. Givenchy's Platform Fringed Raffia 95MM Wedges cost $1,190, an option whose texture is already a statement. Amina Muaddi's Dalida PVC Platform Mules are $1,215, and Balenciaga's Furry Platform Slippers cost $1,150, though neither is a conventional sandal. Roger Vivier's Marlene Jewel-Heel Satin Platform sandals rise to $1,845. Those prices mark very different constructions, not a guarantee of stability. Test the platform on stairs and uneven pavement, and check whether the toe feels secure. Height can change a hemline beautifully; it cannot make a shoe wearable if the foot keeps sliding forward.

Our honest take
A platform sandal should earn its height through comfort and proportion, not through the promise that a few extra inches will fix an outfit. I would try it with the dress length and surface where it will be worn, then walk long enough to notice whether the sole bends naturally. The best pairing is often a clean dress and one accessory with a point of view. A heavy shoe can bring welcome balance to a fluid hem, but it can also overwhelm a petite silhouette or make a long walk feel like a dare. I would skip the highest option if it cannot handle the route. If you take one thing away, choose the platform you can comfortably wear beyond the mirror.
