Third Form

Third Form

Merryn Kelly, a graduate of Sydney TAFE's fashion design program, founded Third Form in 2014 after working in design roles at Zimmermann, Shakuhachi and Lee Jeans. The label built its name on a contemporary, slightly edgy take on Australian womenswear, enough to earn a Vogue Australia nod for its cult following and a spot on Forbes' list of new Australian fashion names.

Dresses

Dresses are where Kelly's background at Zimmermann is easiest to feel, filtered through a sharper, more minimal lens than that label's maximalism. The point is not print or embellishment, it is the cut doing the work.

Tops and shirting

This category leans into the label's more urban, pared-back register, the part of the brand that reads less resort and more everyday uniform. It is a useful contrast to the eveningwear the brand is often known for.

Skirts

Skirts here follow the same contemporary-minimalist logic Kelly has applied since 2014, favoring clean lines over the fussier detailing common in a lot of Australian resortwear. It is a fairly small, disciplined range rather than an attempt to cover every silhouette.

Trousers and shorts

Tailored trousers and shorts round out the more structured side of the brand, the part furthest from its dress-heavy reputation. It is where the label's TAFE-trained construction instincts are most visible.

More from the collection

The rest of the edit fills in a decade-plus of a label that started as one Sydney designer's answer to the more established Australian houses she had trained under. It has stayed a fairly tight, focused collection rather than sprawling into unrelated categories.

Our honest take

Third Form's strength is discipline: a decade in, it still reads as the same clean, urban-minimalist idea Merryn Kelly started with rather than a label chasing every micro-trend out of Australia. It will not surprise anyone who already knows the brand, but it is a reliably well-edited version of what it does.
