VRAI

VRAI

Vanessa Stofenmacher and Chelsea Nicholson founded the label in Los Angeles in 2014 as Vrai & Oro, selling made-to-order recycled-gold jewelry before the diamond producer Diamond Foundry acquired the business and shortened the name to VRAI in 2019. Every stone the house sets now comes from its own zero-emission foundry in Wenatchee, Washington, which produced what the company describes as the world's first carbon-neutral certified lab-grown diamond in 2017.

Jewelry

VRAI's founding pitch was recycled gold made to order, and the diamond side came later once the founders went looking for a more transparent stone and found Diamond Foundry instead. The vertical integration from that partnership, growing its own diamonds rather than sourcing them, is what separates this jewelry from most other lab-grown competitors on the market.

More Jewelry

Because VRAI controls its own foundry, the house can make specific, checkable claims most jewelers cannot, including its carbon-neutral certification from Climate Impact Partners. This second grouping keeps to the same fine gold and lab-grown diamond combination the brand has built its entire identity around.

More from the collection

VRAI moved from purely digital to physical retail starting with a Los Angeles showroom in 2021 and has kept expanding since, evidence that the direct-to-consumer origin story has matured into something closer to a full jewelry house. This last stretch rounds out the assortment beyond the core engagement and fine jewelry lines.

Our honest take

VRAI's origin as a scrappy made-to-order gold line is easy to forget once you are looking at a vertically integrated diamond operation with its own foundry, and that distance is basically the whole business case: fewer intermediaries, a specific sustainability claim to point to. Whether that story matters to you personally is a fair thing to weigh, but it is a real supply chain, not just marketing language.
