The best Pilates outfits fit close without digging in, so you can move freely through every exercise. These picks cover sports bras, leggings and bike shorts, warm-up layers and easy pieces for after class. Most of them work just as well for a walk or a coffee run.
What to Wear to Pilates, and After

A Studio Starter Kit
A good sports bra, fitted leggings and one warm layer are really all you need. Lululemon's burgundy Like a Cloud bra, Skims' navy Shine leggings, The Frankie Shop's green half-zip sweater and the adidas Originals Samba sneakers in sage green cover class and the trip there and back.
Sports Bras
Pilates is low impact, so light to medium support is usually enough. Nike's pink Zenvy bra and Varley's black Cori bra are soft and smooth under a fitted top. District Vision's brown light-support bra and On's sky blue Performance bra add a little more colour to the rotation.
Leggings and Bike Shorts
Look for styles that stay in place when you roll and stretch. Lululemon's black high-rise Align leggings and On's blue Studio Tights both have a smooth, fitted finish. Skims' brown biker shorts are cooler for heated classes, and Sporty & Rich's navy embroidered leggings are the pair to wear out afterwards.
Warm-Up Layers
Studios can feel cool at the start of class, so bring a layer you can pull off easily. R13's light gray zip-up sweatshirt and Nili Lotan's black Callie hoodie are easy to take on and off. Polo Ralph Lauren's forest green sweatshirt and Auralee's red wool half-zip look polished enough for the rest of the day.
After Class
After class, add a relaxed layer on the bottom and carry everything in one bag. James Perse's gray wide-leg track pants go straight over leggings, and Golden Goose's white Super-Star sneakers finish the look. Jacquemus' black baseball cap hides post-class hair, and Savette's mint suede Symmetry tote is smart enough for errands.
Our honest take
Pilates clothes should feel like a second skin, not a costume. If you take one thing away, let it be to put fit ahead of everything else, because leggings that slip or a bra that shifts will distract you on the reformer. Neutral colours are easy to mix, but one bright piece makes early classes more cheerful. We would skip very loose tops, which ride up during roll-downs and hide your alignment from the instructor. Keep a warm layer and a pair of track pants in your bag so you can go straight from class to the rest of your day. Most of these pieces are just as useful for walking, stretching or travel.
