Sisters Candice Rose-O'Rourke and Karla Rose founded Zulu & Zephyr in Bondi Beach, Australia, in the summer of 2012, building the label's design brief around reviving their mother's 1970s prints and textures. The name pairs two deliberately contrasting ideas, Zulu for strength and Zephyr for a relaxed, floating quality, which the sisters point to as the tension the brand designs around.
Zulu & Zephyr

Tops and shirting
The sisters started out selling at the Bondi Beach Markets in 2013 before growing into a brand stocked in more than a hundred retailers worldwide, and the shirting here still carries that beach-to-street logic. Vintage-leaning prints and texture do the work rather than logos. It is dressing built by two people who grew up on that specific stretch of coast, not a generic resort label.
More from the collection
Zulu & Zephyr expanded into childrenswear in 2017 and eventually opened a flagship on Bondi's Gould Street in 2024, a deliberate full circle back to where the label started. The rest of the assortment keeps the same throughline of nostalgic prints reworked for a modern silhouette. It reads as a brand still designing for the beach it grew up on rather than chasing a generic resort look.

Our honest take
There is something genuinely specific about a brand built by two sisters designing around their own mother's decade of fashion, and that personal reference point keeps the prints from feeling like generic resortwear filler. The strongest pieces here lean hardest into that vintage-print identity. Where it flattens out is in the plainer basics, which could belong to almost any swim label and do not carry the same story.
