LaQuan Smith Dresses and Skirts

LaQuan Smith Dresses and Skirts

LaQuan Smith was born in Queens, learned sewing and pattern making from his grandmother, and started his label at 21 before its formal debut in 2013. The brand is still headquartered and manufactured in Long Island City, and Smith has been a CFDA member since 2021 and was a 2021 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist. This edit follows the unapologetic glamour he is known for across dresses, skirts, tops, jackets and outerwear.

Collage of runway looks, campaign shots and street style outfits that capture the LaQuan Smith mood

Dresses

Smith's own story starts at a sewing machine with his grandmother, and the dresses here still feel like the work of someone who understands construction. Lace trims, sequins and long trains turn the mini into the main event.

Skirts

The skirts range from sequined maxis to calf hair pencil shapes and feather-trimmed flounces. They are built for being seen, which is the whole point.

Tops

Bodysuits, halters and plunging shirts give the label's glamour a daytime route as well. I like the lace button-up as proof the drama can be quiet.

Jackets

Fringed leather, feather-embellished blazers and a cropped windbreaker. Smith treats outerwear as another place to show off his tailoring.

Coats, trousers and shorts

Trench coats in snake-print leather, flared leather trousers, wide-leg denim and tailored shorts round out the more wearable side. Even the car coat comes with a contrast collar for attention.

After dark

Smith's idea of evening is glossy and unapologetic. Satin gowns, a leather catsuit, snake print and sequin trousers are the show-stopping side of the label, made for a room that wants to look.

Long Island City, by design

The label is manufactured in Long Island City, in Queens, the borough where Smith grew up. His roots and his glamour are the same story.
