Thanksgiving Outfit: The Editor Who Gave November a Date

In Boston in 1827, editor Sarah Josepha Hale began writing essays for a national Thanksgiving. She kept at it: by 1846, she was running a letter campaign, and in 1863 she wrote directly to Abraham Lincoln. His proclamation named the last Thursday of November for the observance.
