A scarf is the one accessory that genuinely warms you up. Prada's Lurex shawl and Missoni's fringed lame stole both do that without looking practical.

Shape matters far more than logo. Victoria Beckham's oversized metal and acetate pair and Prada's triangle logo style are the two I reach for, and Joseph's aviator is the safe one.

Worn over a coat or high on a dress, a belt is the quickest way to add a waist. Victoria Beckham's Portofino and Isabel Marant's Nedia are the standouts.

If you only buy one, buy the scarf. It is the accessory you will use every single day between now and spring.
